hi is it me or are people playing less ,i find more and more guilds with 10-20 members ,some not logging on in weeks or some cases months ,are they going to other mmorpgs?,do others feel the same as me ? would it be a good idea if gw had a small monthly charge to allow more funds to go into further development ,im thinking at one time we were a direct competitor to wow ,but now wow has pulled so far ahead ,i for one want gw to catch wow and better it, so i would be in favour of said payment to give our game the much needed boost it requires and to encorage new and old players to join guildwars instead of looking elsewhere ,just a idea .

You think that by putting a monthly fee in the game GWs player base will increase?

Dude why would you want to add a monthly fee? you think people will start playing more when they have to pay €15 a month? I am not sure but I would stop playing this game then...

lol, if Anet thought it a good idea to put up a subscription fee for GW, they could as well NOT contest Worlds.com court case against them, get a gun and blow off the top of their skulls.

I dont play GW anymore, i'm here waiting for GW2, That will stop the moment i gotta put more money in between now and then.

GW is a fringe game. One of if not the primary reason many people bought and continue to play GW is because it's free. If it wasn't free, you'd lose AT LEAST half of the players.

If they started the game with a monthly fee, and used that to add content more frequently, then it would work. At this point, and for GW2, it would be a nail in the coffin.

It was just a idea ,i meant only a few pounds just to give them more money to invest in the game ,making it better for us ,ofc they dont want to lose more ppl heavens knows what would happen then ,but look at other games like wow with a monthly fee where there is funds avalible to improve the game they have like 20 million customers ,so i thought we as gamers invest in our game by paying a few pounds would benifit us in the long run ,again was just a idea ,there is a saying ..you only get what you pay ,for so i guess ppl paying for wow having it improved with updates etc each wednesday morning they get a better game ,i for one prefer gw i just wish we were on par with wow again

The problem is ANet would invest that money earned from GW into other games, not GW itself. WoW makes enough to sustain new content for itself as well as fund other Blizzard projects, GW would not be able to do that.

Even if the cost per month was minimal, I sincerely doubt we'd see any benefit in GW and we'd lose players who wouldn't want to ask their mommies and daddies for the money.

This action would result in exactly the opposite effect of it's intended goal: the future of Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, and ArenaNet would be eliminated, nearly all current players would leave, and numbers of new accounts would rapidly decrease.

edit: Why is this in concept classes?

The future is in your hands. Right?

No, I don't think adding a monthly fee would make much of a difference. Decent content has to be developed which takes times. By the time there is such a decent content, GW2 beta is starting. No wait, that's a lie... (Or not?)

In all seriousness, the 'content' added has to be big and unique and completely new if I ever start paying a monthly fee.

I never played WoW myself, I did play other MMO's though, but I highly doubt there's new content added every Wednesday. Probably just bug fixes and what not. On that same note: Why would compare WoW with GW? They're pretty much completely different.

I AM the daddy and I still wouldnt pay for this or any other game. One fee for the purchase of the game is plenty.

And to the OP. If you are depressed because your friends aren't online... make some new friends. I've known a lot of people over the course of the three years I've been on this game. But sometimes people just move on to other things. Depressing, yes. But the best solution if you are a social gamer is to meet people who are playing, not try to come up with convoluted solutions to drag people back.

I dont think that adding monthly fee in this point of the game will help, as said before me it will just kill the game and the fragile expectations for GW2.
In my opinion adding content to GW is harder then adding content to WoW and its clones, you don't have kill x creatures of type y and go to z, type of quests.
If a monthly fee will ever be introduced, the money will go to GW2 development, to speed it up.

Right now, I am on a fixed income, (disability). It barely allows me to pay for my internet connection, which at this point in time, is a luxury. An added fee would end my time on GW.

Would your added fee be per account? I play 2 accounts, my account and my son's account, while he is serving our country. Many others have multiple accounts for storage, would they be expected to pay for each of their accounts separately also?

Is this a "Lead Balloon" idea?

I used to play WoW, however I bought GW about a year ago and I love it! Sure WoW might make more money and have more content but is it a better game? Hell no! This is just my personal opinion though. The time you need to invest in WoW just to reach the max level is insane, and to add to it you have to pay for that time.

I would suggest playing with some IRL friends, makes any online game 100x better, also many guilds have 10-20 people because in things like GvG and HA you have 1 core team of 8 plus a few more if your short. I personally hardly play the game on my own, it is much funner with guildies and friends.

Many people say the game is dying and people are moving to WoW, well I wouldn't move back to WoW if you paid me (maybe if you paid me a lot) because let me tell you, GW has balance, oh noes what? Play WoW and you will appreciate how balanced GW is.

and thats just my little anti WoW rant, have a good day everybody.

GW, like Diablo III, goes like this:
- Pay ONCE, play FOREVER.

That's the way to go with ALL games.

Why?
You save money since there's less need for copy protection. People may copy the game and play offline if the game has that mode, but the real deal it's always in the official online servers, and you need an original to get in there.
And since the online thing is the real deal and it's easier to buy the game and play with most people around the world than making a pirate server and playing with just a few, more people buy the game.
And 15$ may not be much in some countries, but it will be A WHOLE HUGE LOT in others. Games may be sold with different prices around the world, and over time they get cheaper but fees are usually the same for all players, and may even get more expensive over time.

GW2 will have no monthly fees. Diablo II and battle will not have monthly fees. Making other thing will be suicide.

I sign for pay per month fee like 10 euro a month but make it free to download, cause when you only play 2 months you trow away 40 euros and the fee is good for new content and more updates so that will keep the community happy , as you can see WoW has much larger content and a larger community also and make a port for the PS3 and Xbox360 to.

If there was a monthly fee added i think most people would go play WoW or WAR then pay for GW tbh, also the OP said GW catching WoW and beating it i have played WoW for the past 8 months and there just too different too better the other one in GW you can do everything by yourself with heroes in WoW it is solo until the end which you rely on others and also WoW is more free roam but GW is better in the way you can beat the game.

Also im returning to GW for the time being just adding it in.

It's ridiculous that after three years of giving away the game for free that they would change their mind. This kind of business decision would be the same as if TV stations decided to strong-arm viewers and turned, say, American Idol into a weekly pay-per-view show. Overnight, fans would just rage and quit watching the show entirely.

If Guild Wars had been a standard MMORPG from the get-go with a monthly fee, then maybe people would have bought into it. But to do it now is just too late.

Lol, that's an interesting example, because that is actually happening (kinda). ABC, NBC, and several other TV companies have decided to start charging cable providers (specifically Time Warner) to use their signal. And in exchange, Time Warner is charging it's customers more in fees.

So....yea.....it happens.

If they decided to start charging us to play GW, my whole guild would quit playing. We may not be a LARGE guild, but i seriously doubt that it would be the only guild to quit GW. I have better things to do with my money then hand it over to a company every month just to be able to log on to a game. Yes, i still like GW, and i find new things to do all the time, but im not going to pay for it. It was the "no monthly fee" that drew me to the game to begin with.

It's only natural for some to want to help improve something positive they're involved in but a monthly fee would have negative affects at this stage in the game's life cycle.

GW has had a pretty impressive run over it's years. It was as successful an experiment as any could have hoped for but the developers felt it couldn't be maintained much longer.

GW2 gives them a chance to improve and build on a proven platform with less restrictions and more progressive design. They have the opportunity to do much more than they were able to in GW1. Now, it's very possible that they will **** things up - and it wouldn't be from lack of talent - but I have enough faith that they will deliver something worth at least one play though and plan on supporting them since they put out a game I really enjoyed for full year or two and did so with a no monthly fee model, which i also support.

If this game wasn't free I would have never bothered with it to begin with and I would uninstall now if they added one. That is, if I still played. 3 years of canthan new year and the same old same old really killed any love I had for gw. Great game while it lasted, stale content and no news made it so damn tedious to play.

It's because GW1 is really dying now because by this time I would think most of those who started when GW was new have everything accomplished that they wanted to. The whole game has changed since the first days as well. Heroes now keep grouping with others at an all time low and I see more and more people soloing or just standing still in districts like zombies or just arguing with one another about nothing at all or just generally annoying people.

2ndly the content has become old and boring, the loot drops in normal mode are pathetic now and the casual player is reduced to hours and hours and hours of grind now just to get anything useful or a miniscule sum of gold. What used to be fun and exciting is now boring an unexciting. I might see a gold drop in a couple or three days of play in normal mode. I do not like to be forced to play hard mode to be able to get a decent drop at a decent drop rate either.

Anet by changing so many things in the PVE game has really turned off many casual players who only have an hour or less to play a day imho. The other things is solo farming with gimmick builds like Shadowform Sins or 55 Monks that Anet never nerfed to oblivion.

GW1 is but a mere skeleton of the game it was origionally. People used to group and often. They whinned more about sorry henchies than sorry pugs. lol
The day Anet introduced the 3 heroes that players could build up is the day GW1 started dying.

Jeff Strain and other lead developpers have been very, very clear on that: GW is no-monthly-fee. Full stop, no discussion.

Now there'll be additional revenue stream, with things like the BMP, slots or skill unlock packs. These are profitable additions that are not necessary for the game, a bit like "luxuries". And it allows Anet to balance its financial spreadsheets, given that they have to run servers without monthly fees (that or the quality of servers and network connections suffers...).

But you will be able to play the game without monthly fee, that's for sure.

On average i dont play a game more then like 2-3 weeks so why pay 40 euro if you dont play it alot? 10 euro/month is more attractive to the casual gamer cause they can decide when they want to play and make the retail game like 15 euro
