Couple questions

I have been away from the game for 3 years and just started playing again this past week. I had 2 20's from before hand, aswell as a couple characters in the teens.

Well I ended up beating prophecies with a ranger/warrior and learned about the underworld and Fissure of Woe. I should state that I do not have any of the expansions yet.

Anyways, I go to the temple of ages to find a group for either Underworld or Fissure of Woe. The problem is I cant find a group. Everyone is looking for an assassin it seems like. Another common thing I see is people asking for a Pits or a Vale. What are these things?

Why does it seem like these two area's need such specific classes. It seems people ONLY want an assassin/elementalist, a necro, or a Ranger/Ritualist.

I really need someone to explain this "end" game stuff to me. I have done end game dungeons and such in other MMO's but none have them have been completely class specific.

On another note, Whats the deal with assassin/elementalist. The one group I did happen to make it into for FoW had one of these and the guy took absolutely no damage. The group didnt make it far and everyone had trouble staying alive on the first group but these guy took no damage. After we finally killed the first group of guys we went to the next. After everyone died these guy sat there taking on about 15 guys taking no damage what so ever and slowly DPS'ing each one down. How does an assassin/elementalist take absolutely no damage? No monk was alive at the time so no one was healing him.

And any tips to finding a group with a ranger would be great.

Thanks!

The assassin stayed alive by keeping [shadow form] up with a skill that reduces it's recharge time so they can keep it up. People use shadow form sins to do speed clears, which are very popular in the Underworld. Necros are used because [spiteful spirit] can quickly kill foes, and again for speed clears. Ranger/ritualists, although I'm not sure, but are probably wanted because [splinter weapon] can be used with skills like [barrage] to quickly pick off foes.

Wow you have really been away for a while. Most people are running a perma build which is basically [shadow form]. You are almost invincible when using this. Teams of assassins will break off and clear individual areas (mainly UW) to make the run faster, they now call it UWSC, or UnderWorld Speed Clear.

I'm sorry to say that you may continue to have a hard time getting into a group as a ranger with limited skill sets. Having the other campaigns may help this by giving you more skill and professions to choose from. As for now you best bet is to get into a guild and do runs with them. PUGS are almost always a fail, especially in elite areas.

Take a look at this guide, it is one of the best...

Thanks for the help.

I plan on making assassin when I get factions this week but I didnt know I would need to be so specific with professions for the higher level content.

I will take a look at the guide.
