Solo Farming and a other questions

Okay, I have a couple questions about farming and solo farming.

When people use the term solo farming what do they mean?

Do they mean they are using 7 henchman with them?

Do they mean they are using hero's aswell as henchman?

Do they mean they are using just hero's?

or

Do they mean they are completely going solo, with no one else in the party?

Now that thats out of the way, I currently have a ranger/warrior who has beatin prophecies. I dont have the other expansions yet but factions and nightfall should be here in the next couple of days.

What are some of the best places to solo farm with a ranger/(anything-I plan on changing my secondary to either monk or ritualist) in prophecies? and what build to I need? I think picking out a build is the weakest part of my game.

I currently *farm* in Grenths Footprint with 7 henchman (dont have hero's yet). I do it on normal mode and even then I struggle at times. I have attempted to farm it in hard mode with 7 henchman but was unsuccesful.

Stuff I am looking for is purples, golds, greens, and most important of all gold.

Next, what are some of the better places to solo farm in factions and nightfall for the items I listed above.

Thanks for the help!

You said you where getting factions/nightfall soon so scroll threw here and find one you like.

Solo is generally farming all alone, using very specific builds for a very specific area.

If you really want to farm the forget about the ranger. Make an assassin, monk, or ele. Those are probably the best solo farming classes. IMO the best place to farm is in EoTN. If you want goldies then I would get that expansion as soon as you could not only for the good farms and dungeons, but also for the skills there, especially [Glyph of Swiftness], several solo builds for the ele and assassin require this skill.

You will see alot more gold drop in HM going solo. Farming like you are right now is probably not worth your time.

1: Solo farm usually mean no one but yourself but sometimes you will see people use the term when talking about using just 1 hero as in the 600/smite build. I've never seen it used when talking about anything more than a yourself and a single hero, though.

2: Do get EotN. Not just for glyph of swiftness but also for the other PvE only skills that can enhance your damage.

3: You do not need to beat the game with your ele to start farming. After 1 char on your account has beaten the game all other lvl 20s can access hm where most of the farming is done. Just get him to 20 and get a run to where ever the armor, skills and farm spots you want are.

You`ll find ppl class solo into 3 sections
- pure solo with only you
- solo with 1 or 2 heros
- solo with h/h as they dont regard h/h as team members ( yeah i kno it dont make sense )

Myself solo means only you anything above that is duo/trio/team - common sense but ppl always have their own views and they stick to it even if wrong ( their books a 1v1 mean u vs them an heros lol )
Its also hard in a way to suggest a solo build when a player has 1 or 2 campaigns as most ppl go for full skills - pvxwiki may have some builds as they do cater for single campaign builds.
Hm would be best for the items and for gold but again is campaigns+builds dependent tho eotn addon would benefit as theres title skills that can help greatly - pain inverter for a start.

If I were you I'd...
Monk Secondary is a must, get that now. For starters with monk secondary you could solo (just you no help) HM farm Minotaur in Anvil Rock. You'd need standard 55 gear, and a dmg dealer. This'd probably work.
[healing breeze][protective spirit][barrage][balthazar's spirit][essence bond]

Pickup everything, start thinking "how can I do this faster?".

Because they are warriors you'll get a lot of gold war items. If you want money, don't ID them (but ID everything else), think about keeping the max dmg requisite 8 & 9 ones to yourself.

Check out the rune trader and be aware what are expensive runes. Salvage those of value, merchant the rest. Also salvage the minotaur hides.

Goto Lion's arch D1 and TRADE your golds as bunches of 7(5k ???) & your expensive runes and STACKS of materials. Don't spend a lot of time trying to trade them (5min, look for WTBs). If no sell; hold onto your IDs but sell your runes & mats to the traders. Repeat faster.

This isn't that profitable a farm, in fact it's pretty bad, but it's easy, gets you a source of cash now and most importantly intros you to farming/trading/merching/materials.

Meanwhile read these,
There's two stickies on the front page that you should read.

Of course once you get factions and nightfall, use your ranger and beat both to unlock HM & enjoy the game. Be aware as you go through of large groups of foes, that are of the same type.

Then make a monk, sin, & rit to do your farming.

@OP - if this turns into a 'I have this give me good builds' thread then I'll close it - Marty.
