I made a thread earlier about this, but I thought that was just a firewall issue and got a new firewall.
However, GW just crashed after downloading the latest update, so obviously something else is wrong..
Has anyone else experienced this? What exactly is going on?
The first downloading part finishes and then nothing comes up; at this point, my computer just stops responding (mouse still moves but clicking doesn't activate anything).
GW crashes whenever it downloads an update

Can you post your system specifications, please - operating system, processor, installed memory, hard drive space - that sort of thing.
We'll try to narrow it down

Hmm, that seems to be sufficient. The FX is poo, of course - but you knew that
Crashing on download would indicate to me a probable problem with gw.dat - or at least that's the most likely suggestion at the moment.
You could try the hit-and-miss -repair switch for starters (Start-Run-"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -repair) - other than that, you might be looking at downloading a whole new .dat.
Just to be sure - this is purely a Guild Wars problem, right? Any other games you play on your PC have no problems like this?

Considering GW is the only game that I play that downloads upon opening, yea...
I'll try the repair thing and see how that works, thanks.

Hmm sorry for the late reply, the attack site popup was really annoying and I couldn't browse for the past few days.
Is that -repair switch supposed to do something? I append it and run gw, but all I get is a normal gw load...
I'll try downloading a new dat file this weekend if there isn't another way.

the -repair switch will first try to find any errors in you dat file. if it finds any, it will attempt to fix it. if it doesn't find it, it will start GW as usual.
