An account can be played on any pc. So if hes used the account before, that means the account you got and his account will not be able to bind forming 1 account and x amount of campaigns.
You shall be able to use it by when he gives you the Account name and Password, then all you do is type it in, and all necessary packs will be downloaded.
IMO your better off buying prophecies (the first one) and adding it to your existing account. Proph can be bought quite cheap these days.

Yes you can install it on your PC and play it. Only one person can access the account at a time. Havng the install files on your PC is not related to the account.

Guildwars is a free download from the main site, to play you need a GW account, thats the part you pay for, it gives you an access key which will add the campaign it is for. If you are buying it from a friend he will begiving you an e-mail/password. This how-ever is again the EULA (GW rules) and seeing as GW is dirt cheap (50 bucks for all 3 campaigns, less for single ones) I would advise just pickin git up new to avoid issues.

To explain, it is against the EULA to buy/sell an existing GW account. If you are caught by ArenaNet they will block the account.
This is a common form of scamming. People sell the account, then register a complaint with ArenaNet that it was stolen. As all the original account information is known by original owner, but seldom by the new owner, the account is reverted to the original owner and the purchaser is out his money.
Proving that you purchased it from the original owner - receipt, box, access key (card or paper), just means that the account will be permanently blocked from use by anyone.

Access keys are one time use only. If your friend has already used it to create his account(and chances likely are that he has), then you will not be able to add the Access key to your own account. If you really do intend to buy it off him(even though it is against the EULA), then you would need to buy his existing account(username/email and pw).

I almost bought a used copy then decided against it. If your using his login information (you will be if you buy his account), he can reset / steal the account back from you anytime he wants. Sure, nothing might happen, but what if you decide you want one of the other campaigns too? Then they take it, now your out whatever money you spent. I bought Prophecies and Eye of the North for $30. It's cheap and your safe
[edit] I got my copy at EBGames, only one store in the area had it so it took a few phone calls but it's not as hard to find as I thought. [/edit]
