What do you guys think about them. Are they a safe way to keep your data and how safe are they?

Will external HDD help me speed my computer up?
Those are just some of the few questions that I'd like to know because I'm debating whether I should buy a new comp (this one is 4 years old) but has decent configuration or just new parts or will a Ex HDD be enough?
Oh and where to check your system configuration where it's displayed your graphic card, etc... Is it dx diag or somethign else?

if you don't have roommates or thieving siblings, they are about as safe as any harddrive.
What are their flaws?
external drives are typically more expensive, and are typically slower because they are limited by USB bandwidth. there are ones that uses firewire, which is fast, but they are harder to find. not many computers support firewire also.

almost always better to go internal, unless you've run out of SATA cables/slots.

hard drives won't affect your computer's speed.

s for the OS no need to upgrade it
