The last time I had heard about these novels was back in August/September of 2008.
I've been wondering lately if any new information has been made, mentioned or anything at all about the Guild Wars Novel Series.
Will they be available this year, next year or has it been scrapped?

Nothing about it on Pocket Books' site yet. I don't know if any of these are supposed to come out pre-GW2 to stir interest, or come out on/after GW2 is released.
Normally I don't give a crap about game lore, and also don't read novels based on computer games, because from the sounds of things they are usually pretty bad. But looking back to my early times in GW, I have fond memories of the escapades of Prince Rurik, Devona (I remember when she was a noob, around where I picked up that swarming bee quest), and the whole Mhenlo and Cynn thing. They'll all be long dead in GW2, but maybe they'll have descendants. Maybe there'll be some entertaining tales about the Ghostly Hero kicking more ass too.

I would have thought that they'd come out before GW2, since they're supposed to explain in more detail what happened between the two games. I am also looking forward to them, but hopefully they're written by a good author. I have this horrible vision of them being little more than fan fiction (which, although there are a few gems out there, is generally terribly bad), but I'm hoping that's just my cynicism talking. Personally, since I don't think there are many good fantasy authors out there, I'm hoping that whoever wrote those stories in the GW manuscripts and on that really old Guild Wars website (unfortunately I can't remember the address. It was something like their first official website, and had all these stories to do with the lore) at least contributes (and by that I mean more than just the basic lore behind what happened during the time period). I really liked reading those.
As for those people who think the books are a bad idea, I do feel your pain. Generally something like this is a bad idea. Book and movie tie-ins for games just almost always turn out badly. But Anet has always been pretty good with the stuff they release, so that pushes some of the doubts aside.

Some of us love lore, some of us doesn't. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its fail...

Personally, I think that the books should come out soon - not as a way to increase the hype for GW2, but to keep the GW interest anew and bring in a little bit more dough to work with.
Of course, there should be a space between the release of each book. Last one perhaps released alongside GW2?
