GW2 coming in 2010/2011
AshTempus
It pains me to admit that GW has lost it's flavor and what made it what it is today. Grind based concepts like some titles and farming were inserted and that drove a number of people away from the game. Now GW2 as far as structure goes reminds me of wow [is this acronym censored on this site?] the gameplay promise i won't hold my breath that it would be much different from what can be seen now in most mmo's but as far as story goes that certainly made me want to be part of this GW2 whenever it will appear.
As far as new content for GW1 goes i kind of lost hope of ever seeing [altough secretely somewhere deep inside a part of me still clings to that hope].

Just make sure you release GW2 before 2012 so we can play it before the world ends.

I am going to guess that they are hoping for 4Q 2010 (and probably no earlier than that), but since MMOs tend to slip, they are covering their ass by adding 2011 in there.
In any case, best to keep competitors guessing. If you remember, Blizzard announced WoTLK's release date about a week after WAR announced its, and then went on to claim that they were considering adding a whole bunch of features WAR had (nothing ever came of this, though, as WAR didn't do well enough for them to care). Diablo 3 is also expected in 2010. The less planning your competitors can do around your release, the better.

I am kinda sad to hear the news that GW2 might come out beyond 2010-2011. They really need to release new content for GW1 because the wait is immense. It is very sad to know this information, oh well!
Sir Skullcrasher
I'm sure we all got things to do to pass the time before the release of GW2!

It seems to me like some parts of the world are expecting guild wars 2 sooner rather than later.

To all the people who I keep seeing recommending and being optimistic about Anet releasing another expansion or maps because of the GW2 pushback - you're in for some major disappointment.
If they are pushing back the release date of their newest game, one already in process because of financial reasons, they're not going to throwe manpower and energies into making a "free" addition just to keep people around.
Some others I've seen have recommended they add a few more quests like the MOX one or something to keep people playing. Ummmm, a 45 minute quest on a few chars keeping everyone passionately interested for 2 more years = not good math.
They MIGHT try something else though...... Something they can change or increase what they already have. Something that doesn't require so much new content to be written, but can have a lasting, long term inspiration for people to play a bit more. Just common sense ideas that could help:
IFFFFFFFFF they try anything, I think what' they'll do is try to expand somehow on what they have. I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they came out with a 3rd tier of difficulty or something. Where all drops and chest rewards would be gold, available to do in all missions and areas for vanquishing. Something like that. And again, maybe adding more title tracks to also help inspire acitivity. Vanquishing and guardian for a 3rd tier mode for example.
Also, I hate to recommend it, but I'm surprised to this day they still haven't added a "quest" title track. I mean there's hundreds if not thousands of non-storyline quests in GW (99% of which I myself have never done) and I'm sure most GW players also ignore. So, a quest track for side quests completed. That's just one new title idea too. Anyways, IFFFFFFFFFFF, they try anything, I think they'll try things like this to limp it along. Maybe new pets or tonics occasionally, new events (which current events will always bring back retired veterans), new weapon skins, etc. (An option to run with 3 classes instead of just 2, lol - woot woot, only 8 skills still, but 3 professions to choose from - lol, I'm mostly kidding on this one, but would be interesting to have a Perma nuking monk, hahaha).
Even after saying all that, I think I'm being overly optimistic, but who knows - just speculation as everything else

I think everyone that's a 3-4 year vet wishs and hopes for new content regardless of what you may say and everyon saying it wont happen but then again do any of us know what they are working on? Who's to say they don't have a team we dont even know about working on some big project since eotn came out. That's just a far far far left suggestion but when it realy comes down to it we dont know anything until they confirm it. You can argue they havent come out with major content since eotn. Even though that's true and it does look bad as far as them paying atention to GW1, but seriously let's hope. Also the same goes for the release date its when they confirm it.

EDIT: Linsey just answered some question on her FAQ. Has some stuff about updates concerning GW1. It's a good read.

Ok that doesnt have anything saying they would not implement any of the things I said about new content, ect. Also I only said that whole shpeal as food for thought, and I'll say it now all we know is what they tell us. That goes for the release date of GW2, and content for GW1. All we can realy do is wate to find out.

the chart has certainly changed. That letter from Mike O'brien said that more resources were pushed to gw2, it was also estimated after the pushing back of gw2, to Q1 2009. We all know that that's changed, so with all the re-structuring etc. 2009/2010 would be a better guess.

If it sounds to good to be true, it most likely is.

I not sure that chart is right tbh. Everything Ive looked at has Aion coming out in May which is no where near q4 2009 and its already out in Japan has been.

We expect to ship Aion in NCsoft West territories in the fall of 2009.'

Also, I've only ever seen a May release date speculated by fans, not mentioned by an NCSoft employee.

Go to the 11th page on that url, and you'll see where the belief that 2009 was going to be "the year" came from.
NOTE: You can tell this timeline is out of date, as it has Aion at 2008 and GW2 2009, which is what I was implying.

So far gw2 is vaporware... hopefully will lead up to not a huge let down. Getting it regardless
T1Cybernetic
I have been following this discussion but the term (vaporware) is something new to me and i've only just found out what it actually means.
Thank you wikipedia :: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
Guild wars 2 will be out eventually!

As far as another expansion goes, ANET has already stated that there will not be another expansion before the release of GW2, and as it stands there is a low possibility for one after the release.
But, as far as the GW2 release date goes, they never actually set an original release date, so for those that continually say "well now we have to wait even longer", I don't understand what you are comparing this to... I think everone should just start being optimistic about this, the way I see it, I'd rather wait for the game to be completely done and decent, than to have it released in '09 with issues or have the game simply turn out to be crap. The reason it's going to take so long is because they are spending a lot of time working on it to make it better than the original. Personally, I seems as if it is going in more of a WoW direction, which I'm not particularly impressed with but I'm still willing to give it a shot. And they didn't say it would be release in late 2010/early 2011, they simply stated that it may be as late as that because of issues that may occur, etc.
I'm by no means trying to bash anyone, or trying to start anymore issues, I just think it's ok to wait and complaining about it isn't gonna make it come any sooner, go out and do something other than spend your time on your PC if you really don't want to focus on waiting periods.

For Anet's sake, I hope it doesn't take until 2011 to release the game. I know a few folks that have jumped to WoW since nothing new has come out for GW since fall of 2007.

It has already been stated the books are set to come out before GW2 release, however anet has also stated they want to make a big "splash" with gw2 info and publicity all at once, so its not unreasonable to assume GW2 won't follow the book release too far behind.
All speculation of course.

What's the big deal even if people play other games while waiting for GW2? I personally have been playing LotrO lately and it's great fun. But that doesn't mean I won't check out GW2 when it's out. It's not like I'm forever lost even though I'm not playing GW right now.

It just doesn't depend on Gaile, she doesn't code the game, the devs are and they said GW2 will be bigger than originally planned. What more can we do than just wait?
