Moving without steps when i move out of double clicking someone

I was in Senji's Corner and i double clicked somebody by accident, when i double clicked, my character went to that location, when i realized i was moving, i pressed my movement keys (w,a,s,d) and my character moved all over the place without steps. After this, I saw that some other people were doing it too. Is this because of lag? Did everybody see what I saw? And has this happened to anyone else?

Happened a few more times when I tried testing it again.

i had this happen when opening the zchest, i was running around the chest(dont ask me why lol) and when i double click on it..my character would teleport from where i was and automatically open the chest.

Edit: i will bet on rubber banding on this...thing...

Yeah, it's a form of rubber banding, to put it simply.

Rubber banding is where the movement you've been watching, and the movement the server is aware of have gone out of sync. The server updates your client on its understanding of your location, and you jump to that location.
So called because it's most noticable when you're running and the server sends you back to a point you've already run from, sort of like a bungee cord pulls you back
