After getting Prophecies in 2005, I stopped playing seriously for a considerable amount of time (anywhere from 2.5 to 3 years) and recently picked up my account again.

I'm getting acquainted with the changes - everyone apparently has heroes, the new classes, insignias, etc, all that good stuff. I used to do some PvP, but I'm mostly interested in getting better at PvE for now. However, I'm sorely behind on skills, builds, armor, and cool-looking weapons+mods :P (still only have Prophecies, but will be getting Factions and EotN soon).

Can someone help me with an introduction to the high-end PvE arena? I'm not really familiar with this at all, but I want to be able to participate. Tell me what can I expect (aside from harder monsters), what kind of dungeons are out there (are there easier ones versus harder ones...?), what kind of elementalist-builds are the usual, what armor I should have before entering, etc, etc. Are Fissure of Woe and Underworld considered dungeons? I'm really a blank slate on this, so any information would be helpful.

I like playing a fire/air elementalist, but I've played a more supportive role with earth in the past before with little problems.

Thanks, guys!

Please note our Elementalist Forum for all your Elementalist needs. Please also take note of the stickied thread there giving specimen builds should you need any help of that nature.

PvX Wiki also contains an array of builds, though be careful of picking these "off the shelf" and using them - make sure they're the right builds for you.

As for "Advanced PvE"...I'm guessing you're meaning the following:

Sorrow's Furnace - Prophecies
The Underworld - Core
Tomb of the Primeval Kings - Prophecies
The Fissure of Woe - Core
The Deep - Factions
Urgoz Warren - Factions
The Domain of Anguish - Nightfall
Slavers' Exile - Eye of the North

Plus I guess there's completing everything you just did in Normal Mode, again in
Hard Mode.

The Underworld, Fissure of Woe, and Sorrow's Furnace can definitely all be completed by just sneezing on the keyboard, with the help of heroes, and skills from the newer campaigns making them much easier. Slavers' Exile isn't too bad, but I've not enough experience with the others to really comment.

Earth Magic is still an excellent element to play by the way. It's a very nice mix of defensive and offensive magic.
