Botters and Leechers in JQ...Arena will die very very soon
Vel
Too many botters and leechers in JQ lately. The arena will die very soon considering the growth rate of leechers I have noticed in last seven days. It is not only annoying but also, quite stupid to play there to help these botters and leechers gain rank.
1 bot gained r12 in approx. 2 weeks. And that's telling something. If ANET can't fix the bot problem, can they get rid of dishonor system in the arena? I don't want to play w/ bots and leechers and help them win matches. I would like to leave as soon as I spot a bot or leecher.
Seriously, what's cooking ANET?

no it won't die actually.... once enough ppl bot, ppl will realise that they can just enter the arena, do nothing, not get reported, and STILL gain faction...
The arena will be more popular than ever!

everyone should start leeching off the bot, leaving the arena with only bot and leecher lol woohooo....

seriously, folks - report them! I report whenever I see them. Peeps say they are afraid of getting the hex, because they may be the only ones reporting. But I have never gotten it for reporting and i report it all the time.
Dr.Jones
You see the problem with that is when all you have is bots on your team and you report all of them you get dishonor so GG anet or as i like to call them FAILNET
KZaske
How do you know for sure that they are all bots & leechers? As I understand it a leecher will just stand there and not fight, but what about bots?
Dr.Jones
i have a screen of leachers just siting at the rez shrine, as for bots tell tail signs are not having a secondary and runing the preset build that anet gives you when you make a pvp toon. the second is when they aways walk the same line or if there from the guild [LOST] and [GoPK]... ill post that screen when i am less lazy.

That's a bit harsh, considering you aren't aware of the circumstances of their team, or what they are doing, or are planning to do. It's kind of mean to single them out and act as if this is all their fault to begin with. IMO, implement an afk system. If you don't make an action within 60 seconds you get booted. Mind you, this wouldn't fix the problem all together, but AFKers and bots are a touche subject that one can't just fix. It requires finesse and strategy for them to implement something to take care of these issues without going out of range of their capabilities.
The one real solution that nobody seems to want to accept is for people to actually report botters/leechers. In my experiences when I report someone for leeching I'm damn near the only person doing so, which is a shame because botters and leechers hurt the enjoyment of this game in many ways, and they need to disappear. The other solution to this though, is to actually make specific titles easier which is where many botters come in. The Kurzick and Luxon titles are a ridiculous grindfest and there is no challenge other than not going insane while grinding them. If they were to reduce these to more reasonable levels I'd bet there would be less bots and less leechers, or they could just give you a pile of faction for completing quests.
Bots, leechers, scammers, they're all big problems in every MMO, and I've yet to see an actual solution to any of them. Just like hackers, put up a wall and they'll find a way around it, no solution is permanent for the above.

I like the afk system said by rednova, which kicks a player out after 60 seconds of inactivity. The only thing to complete this solution is to have ANET get a queued player and have him replace the afk-er. This will keep the teams complete while at the same time eliminating the leechers. This solution need not have a punishment.

I noticed that too. 3 days back, went into 2 matches & both have 4 leeches on my side. according to the chat screen, there were enough people declaring the leechers. At the end of 2nd match, I was slapped with the dishonor hex. I thought, wtf? dishonor for playing legally? when it was 4 v 8?
damn....but couldn't help much. since it is a dying game. just want to voice out what happened to me.

If you're going to argue with me please post something intelligent and not something that's snide and derogatory. Anet is responsible for their own game, but considering you don't know how they operate it's pretty unreasonable that you single them out and assume that they're bad just because they don't have a magical solution to everyone's problem. It's a business, it's not a P2P game, Anet has limited resources and limited income. They can't rush to everyone's rescue when there's an inconvenience, and not every problem can just get solved with the snap of the fingers. Botters aren't Anet's problem, they're MMOs in generals problem, there isn't an MMORPG out there that doesn't have botters and leechers. Go on, show me one single MMORPG without the above. If you're going to be so negative towards Anet about the botting and leeching issues please at least come with a suggestion to do away with them that's reasonable, lest one assumes you're trolling.
"dying game"
Hehe, no it's not. I meet newcomers all the time, and still see people actively searching for groups for most missions. I can't see how it's dying, other than the obvious wear of time, which is inevitable for any MMO.

And i have A Rather good idea as to what anet is capable of. It isn't that hard to hand out banns i know this because of the trolls that get on when ever gaile gray comes on, they say on vent that they got banned for trolling. also people get banned for verbal abuse and inappropriate names ALLL THE TIME and yet nothing happens to these bots and leachers in JQ and FA who are actually making it less fun for other people unlike some one with an unpleasant name.
ALSO they deserve the name Failnet because of some of there more Epic Fails like adding useless stuff (tonics and summoning stones) to the game where they could be fixing skills that are oped or buffing never used skills not just elites. Or just fixing bugs like the one my ha team as seen in halls were the ghostly hero (who was body blocked) floats into the air and caps the shrine. there are also a lot of simple things that anet refuses to change or do anything about such as the issue at hand and ra Syncing or the fact that the Xunlai Tournament house gives out free zkeys to anyone who can guess, and that the Reward point system is completely broken because the stuff you use it on besides zkeys is Super over priced for something that dosnt even unlock so if you want to re roll and make a new PVP toon (which is the basic idea of having a PVP toon) you dont get to keep the armor or stuff you used your "reward points" for so people just get zkeys.
sorry for the rant but dont accuse me of not knowing anything. i play the game just like you and i read the wiki talk pages and Journal's (those that have them) of Regina, Linsey, Joe, Gaile Gray, Emily, and izzy's Skill feedback pages. which you may or may not read. i have also meet most of those people in person at pax. so yea

Edit: sorry for misspellings and the walls of text. Also Dont Get me wrong i love Guild wars im just Frustrated with the lack of (for the lack of a better way to put it) Effort that anet is puting into gw1 and even though the fact of the matter is most of them are working on guildwars 2 guild wars 1 still has new players joining it every day (believe it or not) and just after a few weeks of playing they will notice the exact same complaints me and others have about the game. (i know this for fact because i hear it from noobs all the time all over the place on vents and so forth)

My point above was simply that it's harsh and low for people to bash Anet, when the people posting rarely if ever even try to remedy the situation. Basically whining about something without offering to help, kind of like how hippies complain about the government and war, but still just sit around doing nothing the whole time.
"the Exact same thing could be said to you."
For the record, that was not directed at you. On top of this, I have been making meaningful posts, and not flat out insulting someone or making random sarcastic and rude comments. I'm not a fanboi, and I'm not saying Anet is perfect, I was trying to get the point across that it's stupid to mock someone who cannot solve a problem, when they themselves refuse to even offer a suggestion or post constructively.

would be nice if the game would kick the leecher from the match (upon declaration) and bring in someone from the queue to take their place. 2 birds, one stone - no more bots/leechers, and a shorter line.
DragonRogue
While youre at it, why dont you get Anet to remove it as mappable area as well. I know I was reported for leeching there when I was trying to map the area. I still fought once I was finished mapping. But Im sure my being there wasnt helping the team, at first, much. But to get the carto title it needs to be done. I didnt make the rules.
kazi_saki
@ Cacheelma - I know that WoW has that kind of system and I just thought it would be a better solution at the moment. It may have its faults but it is still better than none. And we should leave it to ANET to say which suggestion is asking too much because we can never know when "too much" is until we ask them.
Vir Leto
Every game has problems and every mmo has botters/lechers.
I like RedNova's suggestion and I agree with it. It won't solve the problem completely and certainly won't get rid of the bots, but at least we'll get rid of the lechers. I would say after they get a kick to receive a one hour penalty.
As to WOW, I've played WOW too and it is just as full of botters/lechers as every MMO out there. Unfortunately the only way to get rid of this is to play a single-player game

Removing Dishonor would not be a solution, and it would turn some arenas back into horrible places to play. It needs to be fixed rather than dropped entirely.

"so your better bet is to send bot names to "[email protected]" Be sure you put "Bot Names" in the subject line, because that address is generally only for reports of offensive names.
All bot reports will be investigated -- no one would be blocked simply because a name was reported, of course."
Seems like a better option than the ingame system.
Also remember a thread about submitting bots to support in a specific format but cannot find it as yet...will keep looking.

Yeah theres been a increase in boting and leaching in JQ. I'am one of those that have stopped reporting, unless I've seen 3 other players do a report first, since I'm tired of being the only one to report and eventually get the hex.
I do believe that A-net are aware of the issue, but do not know how to take care of it. I do like the idea of replacing a afk player after 60 seconds.

Look, after 60 seconds, you'll be kicked out and someone else in the queue will enter. When you do get kicked out, you'll just have to join the queue again. The way I see it, it will prevent/make it difficult for leeching since there will be no benefit to queuing, since you gain no faction whatsoever. And if that person just presses spacebar to stay in the game, you can report them for leeching/botting since they are obviously not doing anything and is really really leeching.

What if you simply have to do something in the middle of a match, like go to the bathroom? I don't think this is a good idea. Only the real leechers should get the punishment, not someone who just happened to be lagging or had to attend to something IRL. You say to map out, but leaving the game gives 5 dishonor points. Bad idea. Besides, they will just make bots to move every 60 minutes. Some bots already do this, like spam skills or move around the map.

I kinda like the 60-second kick idea. Wouldn't stop the follow-bots, but it could help.
As for the "bathroom-door bell-smoke break-need a beer" exuses for going AFK, the team shouldn't suffer because you had to go. JQ matches only last 10 minutes as it is...

not that I'm condoning the act or action of, but I understood that leeching; as long as it's not through use of a bot, was not against the EULA. If someone chooses to join and not participate, that; although annoying and lame in my opinion, isn't against the rules. I just remember something similar with Fort Aspenwood.
I figure if you take the time to sit there and actually enter, you may as well run around and entertain yourself. Further to that, if you actually make an attempt at being a productive part of the team, it'll only add to the chances of a win and therefore a greater return on faction.
oh and for clarification sake, I don't bot or leech (well not intentionally - sometimes connection is an issue, or things like the kids take priority etc. but that could/should be said for everyone actually trying to play).

The solution to leechers and botters for me has been:
REMOVING MYSELF FROM THE ARENAS.
Simple as that, I'm so tired of them that I decided to not go anymore in FA and JQ. I think that as more players will leave that areas, more bots and leechers will be there.

While it would be nice if Anet could do something like WOW has but WOW charges $14.99/month and sells game goodies to boot. There is simply more cash flow to ,well, suport suport. I would be willing to pay a monthly fee to see more Anet/Ncsoft involement in theses matters but it would have to match the game. Kinda hard to compare WOW anf GW worlds. I personaly like GW but wow does have a different and huge world.

The bots that i see alot will load and use skills right away like glyph of lesser. Then the bots run back and forth targeting nearest player to follow them very irradically. Some will just C + space bar attack.
The best thing would be some system that forces a human player to be there to enter battle. something like click enter, then says enter code as shown, then click accept. This way the code changes everytime you go to enter a battle. Like signing up for email to prevent spam addresses. Talking a short 4 digit number/letters code something entered in a few seconds.
Or even hitting enter then another box pops up randomly on your screen to click start battle. That way it has to be targeted in different locations.

A lot of these leechers are also botters, except all the bot does is enter the arena, ie hit the enter mission button position every x seconds so when they re-enter the outpost they rejoin the queue. These people should also be banned (sure it would have to be shown they have joined mutliple times and not actively been involved)
All it would take is one person with the ability to ban people to observe all the games within a 30min to hour period and most of the bots would be caught, even the so called leechers (who are enter bots).
By just banning the main ones, it would set an example meaning less people will do this in the future...it would also make the arena more enjoyable so when a future leecher turns up people are more prone to report them.
OR implement a system like Allience battles, which has virtually got rid of bots, it would also make the map more playable. Currently you can end up with no monks (from a luxon point of view this is virtually unplayable against an average team with degen on turtles and repairing gates) or sometimes too many monks and not enough dmg etc...

Yet again, I direct a.net to my suggestion in this thread. A small but effective solution to arena bot problems.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10335105
If a.net cared it'd be fairly easy to implement this and at the very least cut the bot population in half. Until some smarter programmer changed the code and then leaked it for the rest of the idiots who just download and google.
