Which Client to buy?
zkong123
I've been playing the guildwars trial prophecy campaign and have decided to buy a retail copy...but which one should i get? Are each of the clients a whole different game or just add-ons to the original game? Is there a battlechest type edition that has all of them and if so is it worth getting? Thanks for any help.

There is just one client which is the same for all content. There are 3 standalone campaigns (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall) and one expansion (Eye of the North) that requires any of the standalone campaigns to work. There is a complete edition available at a very decent price.
Think of the game world as divided into 4 large regions. Every campaign/expansion permits you to access the respective region and if you link them together you can play all the content in the entire game with the same character.

Your best bet is to get the complete set. Although each campaign is essentially it's own realm, you will get optimum playability by buying the complete edition. It will also save you some $$$ in the long term.

Ok thanks it seems the trilogy is the one I would want, seems to be the most complete...Is it free to play or is there a monthly fee? I heard someone say somewhere that GW is free to play now??

Guild Wars has always been free to play. Once you buy the game, that is it. No monthly fee required
Snograt
It is and has always been free to play.

With the complete edition at a bargain price, it's often better to buy all the campaigns at once, as suggested.
Detailed information about the different campaigns (as in, which to start in?) is in the sticky.
Though oftentimes it is suggested to start in Prophecies, for new players.

GW: Trilogy doesn't include eye of the north, but I think Amazon had a thing where they gave it away with purchase of Trilogy. Deal might've ended.

Thanks all. I'm looking around for a copy of the trilogy edition near where I live but wal-mart and target only have "Platinum Edition" and "Game of the Year Edition"....Neither wal-mart or target's site has much of a description about what is bundled into the game....do either of these have all the chapters + EotN? Or is the trilogy the only way to get all three?

the client isthe game, what you click on in the desktop, sorry to sound horrible just saying- people call the different games (factions, prophecies, nightfall) campaigns. tehy all use the same game so you dont need the disk, you can either amke a new accoutn with the access key you get with the game or add it to your account so your characters can gointo both campaigns. personally i think Factions or Prophecies would be the bets for newer players, i started off in factions and still loving it with another account. and it may be short, but the setting is great and the PvP is easy to get into. prophecies is longer and easier to grasp, with no high level monsters for a long while and the setting is even better!, although you wont be able to get PvP faction for guilds.
you could go for nightfall, but personally i find it less interesting, the stories good and long, but theres not really any new Pvp arena except hero battles.
and after you beat the game it doesnt really feel like theres much left to do. with not as many items as the other games, and the storyline takes you to almost every area so theres not much left unexplored like in cantha and tyria
