mix and match armor?

I assume you can mix and match armor with no penalty? for example upgrade one piece at a time as you get funds?
Also, does it generally look OK to mix and match types for a different look? (for example mix Stormforged and IceForged elementalist armor pieces). I assume those don;t matter except for the headpiece which changes a different attribute depending on its graphic?
Is there a way to try out combining multiple pieces on for look without buying them? (like maybe a website?)

http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Look at main page/Armor-then look at all of them.
I mix match all my warrior armor sets. It depends what you mix weather it looks swank or not. No there is no penalty unless you are wearing some non max pieces and some max, then you would just not get the max defense that's all.

yes,
depends on how good your taste is
you can use gwwiki to see individual pieces of armor but its kinda hard to imagine a set with those pics.

You can look in the following screenshot request thread and see if it has what you are looking for. If not then submit a detailed request of what you would like to see and perhaps someone will post a SS for you.

The only penalty I can think of mix and match is that you can't put it into the Hall of Monuments. Other than that, go crazy.

Unless you do not want to be one goddamn sexy beast, I would recommend you refrain from doing so.

I've noticed that most of the warrior GWEN armor is easy to mix. I mix white Asuran, white Deldrimor and white Norn all the time. Throw in a pair of white chaos gauntlets, a white bandana and a white Norn fighting crown and you're ready to go. I've noticed that the base colors are different in the campaigns, Prophs armor is very dull, GWEN armor almost glows, Factions and Nightfall armor is more detailed than the other two(Elite Lux and Elite Canthan). Then again this is all based on warrior armor, couldnt tell you about the rest.

Mix-and-match can be fun.
Also, while it won't show you every option, if you create a PvP-only character you can try out various armor combos.
