how precious are skills points?
papaschtroumpf
Being new to the game I don't have a good feel for how valuable they are , or if you really have plenty of them by level 20 by leveling and doing missions.
I have over 125 points and have yet to use one, in part because I haven't strayed too far out so I was not offered "interesting" skills.
Having gotten a run to Droknar's Forge however, I now have access to a trainer that provides Fire Attunement, which is high on my want list, but can also be obtained from a quest in an area I haven't gotten to yet.
would it be silly to spend a skill point on a skill I can get from a quest, or is it silly to worry about it?

Skill points are easy to come by, so don't worry about spending a few on skills. You get one every time you level up, and 2 or 3 for each mission depending on what campaign you're in. If you stick around long enough, you'll end up having a couple hundred to spare and nothing to spend them on.
Demon Slaya Of God
get it... every time ur reach a certain amount of xp, u get another skill point... they're important to get you skills, but u get enough to last =P
Rak Orgon of Beowulf
not super important except for going for the skll hunter titles, which you probably wont do till later. but even when you do those titles, you get another point for every 3 skills you cap.
dilan155
they are fairly easy to come buy, each time you level up youll get 1 and even when you reach level 20, youll keep on leveling and gaining points.

Skill points are not really a commodity; you should be more worried about the gold cost of buying a lot of skills than the skill point cost.
Lord Of Blame
Soon you will ask yourself why didn't Anet make another use for these things.
Kerwyn Nasilan
They are all to easy to get, like said before the cap at 1k per skill is what hurts
Skyy High
Care more about the money you spend buying skills, really. Skill points are cheap and easy to get, but skills get up to 1k each. If you have a skill quest for a particular skill you want, go do the quest, it effectively saves you 1k down the road.

Let me put it to you this way. My ele alone has over 500 skill points available and has gotten over 1k of them. The only reason I have used so many though is because of consets.
Btw buy tomes once you reach the 1k max on buying skills. Except for like monk tomes they are all cheaper. I keep 25-50 of each tome in my storage all the time when I need a skill. Like sin tomes are like 150g and ele tomes you can get for like 200-300
Edit: Let me rephrase what Dilan said. Once you reach level 20 you max your level out but if you have over 100 skills points already you should be 20 already. Then after that your exp keeps going up and everytime your exp bar fills up again you get 1 skill point not another level

I craft cons for my whole guild and still have over 4000 unused skill points :s
On-topic: As per-mentioned, skill points aren't really anything to worry about, as you accrue them pretty fast and will probably need to worry more about the monetary cost than the skill point value.

I keep rereading your post and I can't help but think you have confused your attribute points with your skill points. Cause while 125 skill points is not a whole lot, it is for someone admittedly new to the game. You can view the number of skill points you have via Hero tab(H) while attribute points show up under the Skills tab(K).
In case I'm right, attribute points are limited. You'll have 170 once you have reach lvl20 and have a max of 200 once you complete the two 15 attribute point quests(the points are given as a quest reward). That said, they can be freely rearranged in the Skills tab so long as you are in an outpost. At 125 attribute points you should be lvl17, right now.

after a while you'll be at 3000 skillpoints (unused) and skill hunter maxed/every skill unlocked etc :P so yes, do it.

Just keep on going at your quests and titles. You will eventually have more than you want, so you can make consumables to sell them

Most Prophecies skills can also be acquired via quests. Saves you some money in the long run. And noticing you've just started playing, I strongly suggest following the storyline, as opposed to using the Driok's shortcut.

All these responses, and none of you point out the reality of the economy for a new player...
If you can get a skill through a quest, do it that way, and save your gold to use on skills that you can't gain through a quest. New players without a bankroll shouldn't throw their coin away when a simple quest would earn what they wanted and even give them a reward to boot.
But regarding skill points, the more you play, you'll realize that there will be a point (after you've learned a bunch of skills) where you earn them faster than you need them. BUT THAT POINT IS NOT NOW. For now, you'll want to use them on skills that can help you that are worth the cost.
