On a general note:
Are they important? Should I not bother with them, merch it? I used to have so many incriptions that I salvaged from armors and weapons and just merched some and gave them away.
On a side note to that, a little off topic from the thread what is a general price for an insription?
Describe the importance of inscriptions

Inscriptions are like other weapon mods: the price depends on popularity and rarity. Many perfect inscriptions sell for about 1-2k. Some sell in the 2-8k range, while a few sell for under 1k. Only a couple of inscriptions, such as "Forget Me Not" are worth a significant amount. (Even a 19% "Forget Me Not" can bring you a few plat, unlike other inscriptions.)
There is a steady demand for "Measure for Measure" inscriptions at about 300g. You might want to consider salvaging those and adding them to cheap weapons that can produce desirable common and rare materials, such as Glittering Dust, Granite, Spiritwood, etc.
If you have the storage space to pile up inscriptions (or at least the very popular ones, such as Strength & Honor) and the patience to stand around Kamadan selling them, there is a market out there. Inscription prices are fairly stable and it doesn't take long to get familiar with the market.

hopefully the improved storage update in april will solve the problem of inscriptions eating up tons of storage. until then, keep the most important ones. Forget me nots 20% are worth the most. most others not so important.

yes as eragon and brettm mentioned forget me not are worth quite a bit, ones like -5/20% are also worth some money, most perfect inscriptions can make you a plat or two, where as things like + damage against a certain type dont sell for much.

Inscriptions allow you to modify your weapons, staffs, rods, shields, and focus items for the task at hand. All my stuff has inscriptions.
The most popular and easiest to sell are "Aptitude Not Attitude" 20%. Price is about 4K to 6K. Also, "Hale and Hearty" are becoming more in demand due to Perma Staffs. People buy the 4 different inscriptions for their shieds and use each one depending on the circumstance. For instance, in the Forgemaster Dungeon it is good to have the inscription that reduces fire damage.

Yes they are important, though that doesn't mean necessarily that they are valuable.
