Elegy to Ascalon

A small poem I wrote of Ascalon.

Elegy to Ascalon

The blood-red sky pours down with flames,
My body numbs as the ground quakes and spins,
Thousands of lives sprawl beneath the rain,
And spewed across the earth are only messy limbs.

I fall to my knees as my world comes to an end,
My family and friends are now all dead.
Waiting quietly and pleadingly, I anticipate death.
But I could only listen to the screams around my head.

I could only stare at the cold, blank floor; I hope and long silently for no more.

My body courses uncontrollably and I scream and yell with frenzy.

My mind only sets coldly on hate, as I am filled with dust, grime, and mud. The Charr deserve to die choking in their own blood.

The death of the Charr set plainly on my mind, I trudge through the city looking for their sign.

At last the walls of Ascalon peer before me, the walls damaged beyond possibility.

In an instant adrenaline surges my body, I run forward with increased wanting.

Brandishing my blade, the silver blade gleams. The cries and torments around me are only a distant buzzing.

Death, I wish in my heart, death and destruction in its fullest art, I wish for you, the Charr.

I soar through the gates, the battle closing in, I shall show no mercy for there is no doubt I will win. However,

An arrow pierces my body,
And another soon follows.
The warmen race towards me,
And I am disemboweled.

My guts and organs splatter about,
But I only smile with satisfaction.
My worries are settled by this bout,
And in hell I shall have redemption.

mmm, interesting. i like the beggining and middle best. it expresses the heroes overwhelming grief and despair and then burning rage. the end where he is instantly killed and disembowled seemed like an extremely large let down. it would be awesome if he were to slay many charr, eventually becoming more and more overwhelmed as his body and limbs grow tired and heavy, his reaction times slowing. pretty good read ;-)
