Sword assassin?
FaiLeD
So I was thinking a assassin with a sword/katana would look. I'm not the best at making builds but I though maybe use [critical defenses] and stuff then pool some stats to shadow arts for [shadow refuge]. But I have no idea what to use for sword skills.

You want to use a sword, go warrior.
Molock
There is no benefit of using an assassin with a sword over a warrior. The only non-assassin melee weapon that is effective with the critical strikes is the scythe because of the potential to get nice crits. Swords are much better with adrenaline making the energy management of the assassin less useful + swords don't get very high critical hits.
Would it look cool? It could. Would it work well? Not really.
You could make one for laughs but yeah.. as I said.. it wouldn't be very effective.

[for great justice][dragon slash][brawling headbutt][save yourselves][critical eye][critical agility][way of the master][resurrection signet]

Using Hundred Blades and Whirlwind Attack instead of the normal scythe builds work in mobs, but axes with Triple Chop and Cyclone Axe work better as a gimmick build. Yes, Sins look cool with a katana.

if you do 100 blades, then sun and moon slash and whirlwind attack are pretty sweet

Have you seen Shiro's Blades? they are reasonable sword like. Although going /W and grabbing is sword has no problem, PvE is easy, and you could always switch to a Mobius build if you came up to a hard spot.
Me and my mate used to run all kinds of wierd team builds with heros, like 4 Melee dervs, 2 Buffer dervs and 2 healer dervs, not the most effective thing in the world, but builds like that are always fun to play, so if you like the idea, go for it.

Dragging a shield around kinda ruins the look. Stick with Shiro's Blades, imho.
Elder III
Way of the Master is an awesome skill for the sin that want's a bigger/cooler weapon - with that said, Shiro's Blades are actually bigger than some of the swords out there.
faraaz
I honestly think nothing about the sword can benefit from critical hits on a sin, than say..any other weapon :/
MagmaRed
Although the look would get ruined some by a shield, Sword still isn't your best option. As noted, the Scythe would hit more damage on critical hits, as would a hammer. However, even Axe is better, and not really because of the damage (although that is better than sword). Axe actually has some skills to consider with a high critical hit chance.
[critical chop][keen chop]
Those 2 skills can allow you to make use of the interrupt and 'refresh' abilities of skills like [critical agility]. Still gonna be average at best, but could be fun. Sword, I really don't know of any benefit to skill use, critical hits, or builds. Sword just has the 'look'.

I actually had an idea a few weeks ago. Critical Scythe is a great build that uses critical arts with, um, a scythe. I was thinking of using the same assassin skills, but using [Hundred Blades] and [Whirlwind Attack] plus another optional to kill large mobs. I didnt actually get around to trying it though, but its worth a shot.

Sad thing is, most Sword attacks work on Adrenaline. Your Critical Strikes' energy gain would be utterly wasted.
Maybe use [[Pure [email protected]] for an energy attack in there (since you aren't going to be in a Stance it will be unblockable) which means you won't be losing out entirely on Critical Strikes, [[[email protected]] would be sort of wasted unless you wanted a single-target snare... can't really think of too much more for Sword that would use energy, unless maybe you wanted to carry [[Distracting Blow] since it's unlinked.
I'll go check on Wiki for a full listing of the Warrior Sword skills and see if there's anything that you might benefit from using.
Otherwise, like I said before, stick to Daggers, or if you must, Scythe.

You can play almost everything in PvE. I also used to play dragon slash katana with no shield ninja assassin. I even used frenzy at the beginning of Factions : fun
But if you're looking for endgame HM missions, you'd better go with daggers.

someone should try a sin with a hammer, with a 33% IAS
cataphract
Are there small enough hammers that wouldn't look too ridiculous on a female assassin? Mmmm, I think I have a Colossal Pick somewhere. That one isn't too bulky, imo.

Gavel of the Nephalim or Ball Hammer. Both pretty compact hammer skins. A female sin should be able to use them no problem.
@ infameGW, Warriors have +33% ias stances... [Flail] being the most commonly used one for a Hammer bar. Assassins don't have the corner on that market, except for theirs is a PvE skill, meaning they don't have to allocate attribute points to increase rank...
