my new dervish build

i was wanting to see what everone thought of this dervish build i made. i really like it but not to sure if will help me out in the long run. i mean like when i get farther in the game towards the end. i have all the expansions and was wanting to play through the nightfall campian to get that cool looking armor in the end of the game for the dervish.

well anyway heres my build:

as for my weapon i have an inscribale chaos axe that i dyed white. its stats are as follows:

Vampiric Chaos Axe of Axe Mastery
Slashing Dmg: 6-28 (Reg 11 Axe Mastery)
Life Stealing: 3
Health Regeneration-1
Axe Mastery +1 (20% chance while using skills)
Inscripition: "Strength and Honor"
Damage +15% (while Health is above 50%)

As for my sheild i use a Exalted Agegis, its stats are as follows:


Exalted Aegis of Devotion
Armor: 16 (Reg 11 tactics)
Health +45 (while Enchanted)
Inscripition "Leaf on the Wind"
Armor +10 (vs Cold Damage)


I've showed this build to other people and they tell me "why use Balthzar? it sucks?!" Well to tell you the truth i like the + armor it gives to my dervish and also the speed. I mean who wouldnt to be a hell of a tank while doing good amounts of dmg to 1 to all creatures and once. I just love that.

But any how the reason im on here is just for the fact that i wanted to see what every one thought of this build and if i might need to change anything.

oh by the way i have a Radiant rune on my chest armor and attunement runes on the rest of armor pieces as of right now

Hey there..tbh I think that derv's are better off using a scythe..its damage is rly high.. and in the build u got 5 on tactics, but aint using a single tactics skill ^^ But, if you like it, go on ahead..I still say scythe should be used ^^

well the rest for the points on tactics is i have a tactics shield that reguires tactic to get the max armor i reguire

Using a scythe > Cyclone attack and whirlwind attack because a scythe attack AUTOMATICALLY hit foes adjacent to the target already. If you have a req 5 shield, its probably merchant food anyway, as the lowest req for a max shield is 7.

you dont understand i have a 11 reg shield im just not at a high enough level yet to have enough point to put in tactics yet. just look at the sheild i expanied in my first post

Scythe is better. I know it looks stupid, but you'll get used to it. The mass damage is rediculous, and the scythe attack skills are impressive.

well i guess your right but there is just something about a dervish using a sword or a axe that drags me in. its true a scythe looks like crap or stupid but really does impersive dmg but i like the idea of using warrior mana attack skills.

I think the best simple advice for you is....


Go to the Great Temple Of Balth, go in the test area with the dumbies (should be able to attack at least 2 dumbies) and run your build.

Record the damage and see how "LONG" it take to kill the dumbies.

Then go dump the axe build for a scythe build...repeat and rinse at the dumbies.

You should be able to put 2 and 2 together.

There comes a point where what really works easily outweighs what you think is cool.

I'm just gonna say, a scythe would be better, but yeah, you're right, a Derv with a sword or axe does look pretty smart. Use whatever build you want, it's your game, your experience.
Maybe try with a different Avatar, just for fun. Maybe with your AoE attacks the new AoG would be cool. For the life steal.

ok heres the videos afte i did some dmg research on how long it takes to kill the test dumies and also which does more dmg. what i found out was that it is true that scythes do more damg than axes but in my opoinon it takes alittle longer to kill. i might be because of the skills i choose. now as for the axe it dont do as much damage as the scythe but it does seem to kill alittle faster. but anyhow heres the videos

lol, the thought of balthazar running around with an axe is awesome =D but really, scythes do higher dmg to multiple foes. u already have +40 armor from balth form so no need for a sheild that will just split ur atts anyways. Not to mention eternal aura is somewhat wasted cause half ur skills are not dervish. ends up only being useful for ur form. take aura of holy might.

I am sorry but that build is so bad I won't know where to start ..

If ur going for fun ..sure it will work just fine ..If it is efficiency ur inquiring about here ...then this is by no means effecient ..

Try something like this

U will be much better offensively and almost as good defensively ..

or you can scrap all those defensive skills cause tanking is baed!

Ok why do you need [Eternal Aura] for one skill?

just wait for recharge when you agro again imo

[heart of fury] [Whirlwind attack] better combo imo

But damage serious damage will be from a scythe and I highly recomend using one instead of an axe. (especially for later missions)

Balthazar is useful for the armor and speed boost...but really, I'd rather use Lyssa, Heart of Fury, and then (maybe) an armor-giving enchantment (I really don't bother with armor buffs myself. My friend I play with is a Paragon, so he handles that for me). Avatar of Lyssa gives extra energy and is a heavy damage dealer (yes, I know it says the extra damage is against enemies activating skills; however enemies use skills constantly, especially high-level enemies), and Heart of Fury inflicts Burning when it ends as well as giving a speed boost for attacking.

And yeah, scythes for the win. I really can't see any reason to use any weapon but a scythe on a Dervish - they do heavy damage, they can hit multiple enemies, they look cool...

extra armor is not bad but not neccessary, speed boost is pretty unneccessary in PvE unless running...
wasting your elite however is baed...

I suppose I should have said it 'could' be useful. If you're just doing a run, then it's handy. If you don't really have any other elites, then yeah, I'd take it along on my bar. But otherwise, I agree. There are better choices. Go Lyssa :P

Some people just don't get it... sure, Balthazar hacking around a Chaos Axe looks cool, but really.

First off, glad to hear that you are having fun. GW is a game, and games are meant to be fun.

As far as efficiency goes, your build is not optimal. Scythes outperform Axes for damage any day of the week (9-41 vs 6-28, difference of 3-13 dmg; Scythes hit up to 2 adjacent enemies to your target, meaning you could be dealing up to 27-123 per hit w/o using attack skills, something an Axe will never be able to do), your attributes right now mean that you aren't getting the full dmg from your Axe (it's req11 and you have 8 Axe Mastery) and you aren't getting the full armor from your shield (again, req11, so you are only getting 8 armor from the shield instead of the listed 16) which is just sort of meh considering you don't have any Tactics skills on your bar at all.

What others have said about AoB is true. You shouldn't need to carry a shield because it buffs your armor by +40. The movement speed increase isn't needed in PvE because mobs aren't going to try and get away from you - once aggro'd they fall all over themselves to get TO you so they can hit you.

Now, if you are still sold on using this build, my suggestion would be to get a req9 Axe, drop all your points invested in Tactics into Axe Mastery and Mysticism and do it that way.

Mysticism powers AoB and Intervention, Axe Mastery for your Axe attacks. The armor boost from using a shield isn't going to do much, so not investing into Tactics and getting 8 armor for free is much better than reducing your damage output (lower Axe Mastery) or your Elite (AoB) by putting points into a 3rd attribute to get a little bit more armor (which you don't need) since you don't have any Tactics skills.
