I am still reading over the sticky guide and it has lots of info that I am sure later I will understand (I hope)
I've finished all 4 campaigns with my Ele,Ranger and Mesmer and I really want to play and understand the Rit (and after that the Assassin)
It's the understanding part that is getting to me LOL I am not used to playing a profession that isn't dependent on it's weapon.
I really really am totally lost, I am at level 4 with my Rit and wondering how I will ever get past that as I don't even know what skills to use (as of now I only have a choice of 8) As of now I am just randomly clicking things hoping I do not die

Help?
If I posted this in the wrong place, or if it has been asked a billion times (it hasn't been asked by ME) then I am sorry.

Well... I'm not 100% sure I understand what it is you're asking, but feel free to PM me anytime I'm on, I'll gladly discuss it with ya and help you sort it out =]

EDIT : As for ritualists... your weapon doesn't matter too much, if you're using spirits... just a +60 health staff would work. Though you could also go channel/resto support, there's lots of different builds to use... depends on what you want to do :P

Whilst casters (such as Ritualists) aren't dependant on the damage their weapons output, the correct mods make all the difference. These differ depending on what build you're playing, and personal taste to an extent).

Channeling and Restoration Magic based builds often benefit greatly from "Halves Casting Time" inscriptions and modifiers. "40/40" sets work well for these attributes (GuildWiki explains this well).

If spirit spamming is more "your bag" then reducing the casting time of spells wont have much of an effect, since most spirit spamming skills are "Binding Rituals", and not "Spells". Given Spawning Power is used for skills such as [[Boon of Creation] when spirit spamming, I favour a staff with +20% longer enchantments placed on the staff, along with usually a +30HP staff head.

At level 4, my initial feeling is you should not overly concern yourself about the weapon for the moment, until you're a slightly higher level (10+) with more attribute points to spend, and come to a decision on a build you enjoy using so as to maximise the usefulness of your weapon when you tailor it's mods to your needs.

If you use item spells, your weapon+offhand mean jack squat 90% of the time. They only matter for energy/armor/health if your item spell goes down at a bad moment.

If you don't use item spells, just follow the same logic you did for your ele.

Rits can do many things. We'd be happy to help you, but you need to first give us an idea of what you'd like your rit to do. Do you want to heal? Do damage? Party support (Weapon spells, etc)?, Spirit spam? Minion master?

early on spirits are good to start off with, but they lose their effectiveness later on and youre better off sticking to channeling/restoration. unless you know what youre doing though (anything works in pve really)

I'd like to do damage I guess, because I normally do not play with parties, I just take my heroes along. And I want to do Ranger second (yes I am going to waste that one slot for a pet LOL) I'd like to have a Rit that can finish the game with just herself and the heroes, and I know it gets harder and harder. I thought I'd never finish with my Mesmer but I did!
I have a level 20 monk and do not enjoy being the savior and never play her so yes, damage I think is the way I want to go. Thanks for helping me )

You can go... Channeler, like something like this:
[[email protected]][Essence [email protected]][Spirit [email protected]][Spirit [email protected]][Gaze from [email protected]][Offering of [email protected]][Summon Spirits (Luxon)@12][Flesh of my Flesh (PvE)@3]
Which is what I use, and deals pretty nice damage without ever losing energy. (Spirit Rift + Gaze from Beyond is a great spike lols)

But you also could, if you seriously want that pet, go Rt/R indeed, get a pet and a bow, and use [Spirit's [email protected]] with [[email protected]]. Just a thought.

The single best weapon for a ritualist to own in my opinion, if I have to pick just one, is a "swift staff of fortitude" with the inscription "Don't think twice".

This staff is sometimes referred to as a "10/10/20 staff" because it has two 10% chances to halve the casting time of any spell, and a 20% chance to halve the recharge time of any spell.

This weapon's bonuses work with all spells, not just spells from a single attribute, so once you have a staff like that you can use whatever magic you like!

A ritualist is very versatile in that their attribute lines are very self-contained. That means that you can, for example, max out Restoration, put 3 ranks into Spawning Power, and have enough points left over to max out either another of your own lines of magic or a line from a second class. So, even if you just took a single skill from a monk's Protection line or a mesmer's Inspiration line, you have the spare attribute points to use it at rank 12! That extends to anything... weapons, pets, spells... take your pick - ritualists can take on many roles, just adjust your character accordingly

Ok let's say you were going to build a Rit, leaving one empty slot for a pet.
I want to see your builds!!

And Cirian can I buy that staff somewhere or is it one I would create with mods?

Pardon my silly girl questions
