Kuunavang Price History
nuclear_herring
Ok, first of all if this thread should be somewhere else, can a Mod please move it for me? I wasn't sure exctly where to put it an price check seemed to be a good idea.
I started this little bit of research last week after I noticed that prices of undedicated kuunavang Minipets had started going through the roof since I last looked. There seem to be plenty of people selling them, but prices are going up and up with gathering speed.
As a result I looked through the minipet pricing guide and wrote down all the prices for which mini kuunas had been sold since October 2006. I then averaged out the monthly cost and charted them using excel. I was hoping to get an idea of where prices are going, but the curve is changing so rapidly its difficult to tell.
All the prices I've quoted are cash totals rather than 100+e to try and accomodate the fluctuating ecto price over the last 2 1/2 years so if I've got the totals slightly wrong, my apologies.
I've highlighted the two dates that have affected minipet prices in general. First, the patch that allowed you to display your prized mnipets in outposts rather than just out in the wilds and second, the ability to dedicate minipets at the hall of Monuments. Without these two events, I think minipet prices would have stagnated long ago, though the common pets have reached saturation now.
I hope people find this data useful (or interesting) and please comment on it either positively or negatively.
Cheers,

Interesting research data. Looks like simple exponential growth, to me. Just hold on to them if you have them, the price can only keep going up ^^

Yeh so it misses one key part, date when factions CE were removed from stores, then it did skyrocket
MercenaryKnight
I used to powertrade it and can pretty much verify prices. Whenever people sell they just have to use 1 simple line. People are dedicating them and the more that do, the less undedicated in existence. More and more people are gonna pay higher prices for them as more time goes by.
Luminarus
In other words if u want one, get it now.
stogez
Actually prices are going up because people are hoarding them, not because more are being decicated. It has gone from about 55-60e to 100e in one month. It is the same with all other rare pets. Prices have doubled/tripled or more in past couple months.
Fallen SeraphiM
ye.....lets not forget lame prices on oni, naga, yeti(in last 2 months price is 8x,8x,8x than its used to be),and ig(few months ago u could get unded for 4,5k ectos, now ppl are buying ded at that price) so somehow,i can understand why is price on undeds going high, but giving 3k ectos on ded vizu or something like that is just pointless
stogez
Reason is that people just need a money sink. There are too many ecto and ABs flowing into the game. As more and more people can afford to pay the ridiculous prices, the prices keep going up.

Thx for the feedback.
I think that more and more people are finding ways to farm ectos/zkeys/v spears etc etc so wealth is circulating at a greater rate. With the monthly xunlai tournament cash is injected into the economy - fuelling inflation even further.
Having said that, factions CE is still available online in the UK, though I'm not prepared to spend 18 quid just to get a minipet - that strikes me just as gold purchasing by another name.
I will update the chart on a semi-regular basis if people are interested. Plz let me know.
PS I'm only really interested in Kunnavang prices cos I happen to have one tucked away in storage and I wonder if there is any theoretical ceiling or whether prices will increase until they disappear from view completely.

What's a better investment than items which can only go up in price? Kuunas certainly won't get released again no matter what.
But wait, it may be a trap When everyone will think the price may only go up, it may go up too far. The price may get artifically overinflated at some point and hoarders with multiples of them may realise they won't be able to sell them for as much as they want. And the bubble bursts.

Anyway, the point- if u rly want some pet u would get it long time ago,now exept for reselling i highly doubt that most of the buyers rly want to keep them

As early as a month ago kuuna's were common as dirt and the price reflected that. Not sure why they have all of the sudden increased so drastically. I thought I would have plenty of time to get one for my Hall, but I'm thinking I should buy asap if I'm going to as I doubt the price will fall.
I notice grawl prices have also increased, so look out for those as well :P

Prices of almost all 'limited' minis skyrocketted in last 2 months. It may be connected to the XTH making many people suddenly rich, those who would normally never buy a 100k+ mini became interested in getting some. I've sold a couple 'limited' minis last week for stupid amounts of zkeys (like 3x their worth) and buyers only wanted to pay in Zkeys.
Mordiego
That's pretty much the explanation. Due to recent growth in UWSC popularity and lack of new game content + XTH constant money flow the economy is at worse since Guild Wars was first introduced. Sadly if aNet won't give us another Chaos Gloves like money sink- it's going to be even worse IMHO.

Makes me laugh. Powertraders spend years acumulating wealth; only to endup paying outragious prices now for items they once sold cheep. (back then at a profit.) Net gain=0,0%. Hell most might even endup loosing in the long run.
My advice to the hardcore traders is this:
full HoM and GWAMM title will be rewarded in gw2 (if we can take anet on its word)
Stockpile on moneysink title items like sweets; alcohol and party items.
Once gw2 comes out (depending on how good the rewards are) these items will be worth their weight in gold cause many will still want to max these titles in gw1 so they can reap the rewards in gw2. When the time is right sell those items for gw2 gold. This should provide a solid capital base to powertrade and keep on gaining wealth in gw2.

I think its interesting that dedicated kuunas haven't altered in price much. I always thought that dedicated pets went for about 40-50% of undedicated price.
Obviously that old idea isn't true with the rarer pets with dedicated kuunavangs selling for 100k or less still.
Still interested in comments people have to make on this subject. Thx.

will something like this happen to varesh eventually?

The price of vareshes is very hard to predict. After all gw is a dying game, after a year or so, not many players will be left. It's either going to have a very high price because noone has them, or very cheap because there is noone left to buy them.

Tx for the data and research, I like this kind of stuff.

It seems like the prices are going down again slightly or at least it doesn't seem to rise further....

This is one of the high end posts at the moment. I LOLed when I saw it because a lot of kunnavangs are now selling for 105-115e. Personally I wouldn't have put the S/B so high, just to stimulate interest, but thats just a matter of style.

Bought an extra Kuunavang from a guildie for 60K a long time ago. He was annoyed with the sounds it was making when used. Later I sold one of the two I had for 100K+10e. Now I realize I should have kept it.
The development of the Asian mini's is even more extreme. Three months ago I bought and unded Oni for 650e - now I see them selling for 1050e. I'm keeping mine, but it is extreme how their price have rocketed lately.

I'm not suggesting a form or RMT but a collectors edition is £16...

and Island guardian did skyrocket most imo.
like 1.5month ago, dedicated was ~3200e. now 5000e+

Very interesting to see Kuuna prices on a chart like that. Thanks for the work you put into making the chart. I would bet that all the non-Bday minis have a similar trend.
I am long on Varesh, Certadon, Gray giant, Asura and shorting Oni, Naga, Yeti.

I don't predict the price for varesh to go up that much mainly because its unpopular. Also there was alot more as it was clearly advertised during the release of nightfall. The kuunavang was the first time this has been done and it was added extra i believe.
Then again Varesh will eventually be rare as no one wants them

I think rare minipet prices will keep going up until a release date for GW2 is announced. Then they will go mental for a bit until GW2 actually comes out and people realise there is no real advantage to having them. then prices will dump.

I'm glad I bought a bunch a while ago, too bad I sold them during one of the lesser price spikes
Shayne Hawke
Yeah, I've been seeing a few people asking more about Gray Giants and Asuran minis lately. Is this price hike only affecting the undedicated minipets, or are the dedicated minis actually seeing a similar shift?
Martin Alvito
To some extent. A ded Oni has shot up from 100e to around 250e recently. Ded Kuunas have probably doubled in price.
With things like the Asura and Gray Giant, there's enough supply that only undedicated ones move right now.
