so called "botting" and banning.

this weekend we were given special event item drops, and naturally most of ppl used this opportunity to farm - some more, some less, some not at all. Now my guildie and a long time GW friend was one of those who farmed a lot, and for that he was accused of botting - he farmed raptors for few hours straight, so someone thought he should report him for that and say it was botting.

few hours later his account was banned, supposedly a perma ban for him as he was "botter" and that this shouldnt be discussed anymore - that's what email sent to him siad, giving him no chance to explain what happened. He posted back to support, but all mails ignored.

so, he was farming raptors for event drops and he used G11 keyboard which is using macro keys, but that isnt botting - not at all. that only makes farming a bit easier as instead of pressing 50 keys you press 15, however unlike botting you still need to be actively at computer and keep repeating it for it to work. And yes, he was at computer all that time as he was actively chatting on guild chat while botters are usually afk.

Now why banning a guy who spent over 6k hours on this game, had filled HoM, GWAMM title, many lvl 20 characters and all collector edition campaigns (including prophecies with rare glowing aura), and who supported and played on this game for years just because he used a keyboard that he purchased and was unaware that it's againts the rules? and not even giving him a chance to explain what happened? unfair. very.

said that, there are still dozens of bots out there in JQ and other outposts farming faction or money and those get away unbanned - how can that be fair?


Regina, if you read this, pls post and say if there really is nothing we can do to get his account back? is this really a lost case?

Use of macro keyboards isn't technically botting but it is bannable just the same. People have been getting banned for years using this.

There have been plenty of statements he could have used to look this up and find it out.

This game never had the distinction that some other games have between "botting" and "afk botting" where afk botting is bannable but botting is arguably not.

pve and pvp, also of course some afk, but still.

ive done over 7000+ hours of pve and about 3 hours of pvp

Interesting that you are asking about it and not your friend. Nothing can be done here, as you will learn as soon as this is locked. Contacting Anet support is all that he can do. If he got a response telling him he can't get it reverted, then he can't. If he got a different response, then he needs to contact THEM for a reason.

Yeah so ppl been banned for using macros etc, for years, but i never heard someone got perma banned for it, seen like 2week bans.

and i wonder how would you talk if you were perma banned for something you didnt do (he used macros but didn't bot in full meaning of the word).

Like pleikki said, i heard ppl got temp banned for it, but from what my mate said, this one was supposed to be perma. Hope Regina sees this before "lock" like some ppl are saying
