They said they've locked release date but it hasnt been said yet, little before that they said they're guessing release for end of 2010 or early 2011, but nothing is sure

The finance post at their website only showed as far as 2011, GW2 can and probably will be released after 2011 if at all.

Their last press release said GW2 is scheduled to be "announced" in 2010/2011. In clarification, they stated that their goals for the project have been dramatically expanded, and that fans of the franchise will be very happy about the final product and feel it was worth the wait.
Of course, that is just marketing talk, but what I got from it is they are getting more ambitious and want to create something that will compete with the top online games of the next decade. I hope they succeed, and that they keep the unlimited play aspect.

I just hope they don't go WoW clone crazy and raise the level cap to 100 (or even unlimited, as stated on wiki)

Essentially, they finally figured out how to win at making games, by using the main strategy Blizzard has been doing for years.
Do it right, and it's not done until it's done.
Now they just need to figure out that by releasing small amounts of information and alpha footage, people will latch on in anticipation. Although we had Warcraft 3 as an intermediary between Starcraft and the upcoming Starcraft 2, it has been over 10 years since the release of Starcraft. Blizzard clearly knows how to keep interest in an upcoming release, something that ArenaNet must still learn.
Doing this kind of thing really helps.

They announced it at initial conception of the game to explain why they would not be releasing new campaigns for Guild Wars every six months. Normally, a company contemplating a sequel to a popular game would be a little further along before mentioning it to the public.
They also know that, unlike Guild Wars, they cannot release an incomplete game and expect the fan base to exhibit patience while they rework it completely. Even though it will be free-to-play, it will still cost about $50 to purchase (my estimate).
News of bad game experiences travel very quickly through the gaming world and can kill a game within months.

I wish people would stop asking about GW2, it's not like there has been any new information since forever. If you want to discuss it, Q&A isn't the place for it. Closed.
