I got to thinking about adding caster weapons to my caster heroes. If put on guard, will they run in an attack? If a caster sword is put on Vekk and I set him to heel, will he still cast spells normally? :S

Thanks,

if you give them melee weapons, i.e. sword or axe, they will run in and attack if set to "guard" if you set them to "heel" they will not use any spells that target an enemy. the best option, if you don't want to give them staves or wands, is to give them spears. that way you can set them to guard and they won't be in melee range.

Something to add to this - if you bring [[Blood Ritual] on a hero for energy support like I always do, they will not cast it on a person with a martial set, whether spear or otherwise, unless you force them to. That reason alone is why I always try to use staves and 40/40 sets on my heroes. As far as I know, the same holds true for Eve.

Just tested again due to below comment with heroes - went on my monk with sword and shield, spammed Spirit Bond, RoF, and Guardian until energy was 0, no BR. Kept spamming skills to keep my energy at 0 for a solid 30 seconds, no BR. Hit F2 to my 40/40, instant BR. Try it out sometime. Did the same with Dunkoro as well, as soon as I switched the sword to a wand he was hit with BR. I'm about to go test with Eve, I'll be back with more results.

Eve did the exact same thing.

as for the topic, i would never give any caster hero any melee weapon. they will run in hackin n slashin and when set to avoid they will not cast spells on targets. just stick to staffs and wands. i do however always put my MM and healer on avoid cause normally they dont cast spells on foes anyway and they tend to stay safe much longer this way.

Spears have their pros and cons. You can ofc get better stats with spears, but spears do have smaller range than cast range. Meaning, if you go in and cast something, your hero might go in FRONT of you to throw a spear at something. /facepalm. You can ofc solve this by proper flagging, but whether this is worth it is up to you.
