EotN loot drop question

OK, so I'm farming these annoying cave-dwelling raptors so I can finally get that awesome green dagger (!!!), and I notice the following annoyance.

I get white and blue scythe/spear drops, but never purple or gold ones. If I open the chest there, I sometimes get purple and gold scythes/spears. I notice that the conch shield (as well as axes/bows/swords) drop in white/blue/purple/gold, so this is a bit odd that scythe/spear only drop as vendor trash (still looking for that req8 max blue inscribable!!!)...

This doesn't seem logical to me. Is there a known reason for this discrepancy, or is it akin to that chest loot bug they just fixed a patch or so back (e.g. chests in EotN not dropping tomes)?

EDIT: this seems more to me like a question about general EotN drops, rather than a farming question - at least that was my intent...

it's the same in Vaettir farming, no gold or purple spears or scythes.

Yes, I do find it strange that there are only blue/purple/white of those items. I haven't gotten one gold Nightfall-proffesion item yet.

I can't believe you are expecting good drops in GWEN. I have had a few, but I get as good of drops farming hydras. The drops we saw in the preview have never been part of the actual game.

Ive had purple and gold lesser/normal/greater guardian spears drop, so they do drop. You might just be unlucky.

1) I've gotten many, many gold spears from there.
2) I've gotten many gold Saurian Scythes from the chests there.

Although I don't think I have ever gotten a scythe from the drops, I just figured that it wasn't one of their drops.

The big difference is volume and turnaround. Vaettir and Raptors have the highest turnaround in runs, and the highest volume of raw gold item/hour ratio. Can't be beat for weapon mods, just sucks you don't get scythe/spear mods out of it.

In general Eotn i feel has the worse drop rate for anything out of all 4 parts of gw ( 3 campaigns and addon ).
Dunno why that is - i recall following storyline and say getting from gunnars to sifhalla ( non taxi ) i had very little drops and yet spending same time on diff campaign somehow gave more drops - even money in Eotn seems to drop less.
That is something which stopped me for almost a yr doing any eotn - why do eotn when i can do other campaigns and make better money.Running isnt included as within gw any run makes money ( consulate docks run etc ).

btw; just a bit of advice, i wouldnt merch them great conches, i would slap highly salvageable inscripts on them, and salvage, they give nice big piles of dust, which stacks of dust are selling pretty high now, and you can sell a stack very very quickly in kama. same with any hammers, most of the hammers that drop there salvage to granite, which is also a lil high atm, 4.5-5kish

Am... About not dropping tomes from chests in EotN. Yes they drop tomes. Once i was running Rragar's and in whole dungeon one guy got 3 elite tomes from chests. Last time i also got one. But as every locked chest they also drop normal tomes (got assassin tome /()&#)("!#)($/!"). Don't know about NM. I think that locked chest on NM shouldn't drop tomes.

I've had quite a few gold Saurian scythes drop and from the chest aswell

Err as far as i know you cannot get normal tomes from chests in nm eotn - hm yes , only exception would be zchest ( before any smart asses get in :P ) but zchests i wouldnt regard as a normal chest - only zkeys will open zchest.

Conches and starfish icon ( cant think of correct name but you get a lot from mes foes in asuran territory ) are gr8 for dust

A bit tangential, but yeah, I've mentioned this elsewhere here (same for starfish focus). In fact, I'd recommend salvaging only those that are valued at 330-400g (without "show me the money"), as they will give you 110-130 dust, whereas those valued at 200-260 will give you 60-80 dust (more bang for the M4M!). Very strong correlation, prolly 0.7 correlation coefficient...
