Can you pass things from your characters out of pre-searing to the ones in pre-searing? I heard that people kept characters in pre-searing to make money...do they then pass it out to their other characters?

A few other hacks have allowed tomes into pre and a few mini-pets that should not be there (mini-mallyx, mini-pigs), all bannable if discovered.
There is an active market for max purple weapons in pre-searing, some of them reach the 200K+ range, and ones with an +18% vs Charr mod are worth the most.
Farming in Pre can be profitable, simply because there is a limited number of items that the foes can drop, and at event times there is a better chance of special drops than other places in Post.
Pre-Searing also has an easy way to farm alcohol, the ability to collect 4 Hunter's ales in about 10 minutes or less, if you know how to do it right. This is available year round, regardless of the season or event.

There is a way to pass money and items out from pre-searing. Simply find a person you trust, have him/her make a pre char and hand it the stuff and have it leave pre. Or if you can manage to play 2 copies of Guildwars, that requires 2 accounts, you can do it yourself. But its one-way, as said there is no way to get it back in pre.

Yeah, Presearing is my all time fav area. I have almost got the MOST powerful toon in pre..lvl 19 with a fire imp. Its sick.
There are great places to farm mobs as noted above by micosay. I do believe that his estimate on the hunters ales is a tad tong too. It takes EXACTLY 2 minutes to run from Fort Ranik to the bears - up and over the hill. Running 2 accounts simply agro the bears to the "bush" and with the other account start the challenge. From there kill ONE bear and get 2 ales and then repeat and get the other 2 ales. There are 6 bears there but it takes longer to run to the bears than to "resign" and run for 4 more ales.
I can get 50-56 ales an hour this way.
The point? You asked about making gold. Sell these hunter ales for 100 gold in ascalon. Please do not sell 4. Save them and sell at least 10. I normally sell when I have 100 and get 10K.
Wait your not done. You can then trade that 10K for 20K post gold. Yes I have done this but at 50K a pop.
So in you can make 100K a day (post) just with hunters ales. Now that is Killa..
Gets super boring after a week though. I am getting thirsty...is it Miller Time?
