pvp armour and energy

okay first things first-- i dont know where to put this so i figure ill put it here
on my pvp trapper ranger i was playing around and i met sombody who had 71 energy.
i can only seem to get 60
[all +'s are energy]
weapon- staff - +10, +4 head, +5 inscription
head- +1 radiant insig.
chest - +5 default, +3 radiant insig. , +2 attunement rune
gloves- +1 radiant , +2 attunement
legs- +2 radiant, +2 attunement
boots- +1 radiant, +2 attunement
--------------------------------------
= 60 energy in total, 3 regeneration
wilderness survival - 12+2+1
expertise - 12
i looked through the forums for an answer but to no prevail
any advice would be greatly appriciated

I think you're missing some staff mod unlocks.
The max energy on an insightful staff head is 5, not 4.
Rather than use the +5 en inscriptions on the staff (Hale and Hearty, etc.) use a "Seize the Day" that gives the staff an additional 15 energy at a cost of -1 pip of energy regen.

Wre they a ranger as well? - If they were, they would have been using inscriptions/mods that give +15 Max energy but -1 energy regen. Casters generally have higher energy that a ranger would, and elementalists even more so, so if he wasnt a ranger, that would have been the case.

First of all, energy management is better than a higher max energy pool. Swap a perfect Insightful and a +15, -1 regen inscription onto the staff and you'll get 71 after all the other equipment you listed. Only 2 regeneration, naturally.

No, bigger energy pools are pointless, go for a lower maximum energy and learn how to manage it/add energy management skill onto your bar.

Regeneration is generally better. You can only use the extra energy once, and then you have to wait longer at a lower rate for your energy to return. You may also use both, however. Use your regular set until you run out of energy, swap to your higher energy(with reduced regen) set if you need to use a skill, and swap back to your first weapon set. Your energy will be "negative" at that point, so you'll have to wait a while with zero energy before it starts to fill again.

just get blood ritual on your prot monk hero and micromanage it on yourself, if it's for z-elite. no problems with mana.

It's technically possible to craft a dunce cap by putting Attunement on your head, so 85 is the maximum possible.

I prefer energy management more so than high energy especially if you are trying to apply pressure for a sustained amount of time. War Endurance will give 3 energy every time you hit and there are some other skills that will give energy when you are hit and even glyph's that reduce the amount of energy.
Ranger has an attribute that will reduce the amount of energy needed to use skills even. or if 2 people sync with each other you can increase each others energy by +3 regen. This is very effective if both parties can stay alive long enough to make it effective.

There is an offhand inscription that does the same.
My SS necro uses these on his primary weapon set to run around UW with 77 energy. This allows him to be more efficient in the duo 55/ss runs because he has enough energy to kill the entire mob the 55 has gathered. He then switches to a set that doesn't have the -2 to regen while the 55 gathers up the next group.
