Hello all! It's almost summer and the days are getting a bit hotter which means that black outs are inevitably coming soon. I'm looking to buy a UPS for my rig but am unsure of which brands to look for and what kind of back up I really need. My rig has a 700 watt psu and a bit unsure of how much my 19" monitor pulls but I'm guessing ~150 watts? So I'm thinking I need a 1500VA / 900W UPS and was looking at this one or this one that's on sale at Fry's.

I guess the question is will I have enough juice in the UPS to have my rig survive the power outage (aka get to shut it down) or do I have to look for a higher wattage UPS?

All you need is about 3-5 minutes to save your work and then shut down your system. A 19" monitor is going to use about 45watts... the old CRT behomoths didn't even use 150 watts! The wattage total for your computer is determined by what's in it, not the PSU... the 700watts listed there is just the maximum draw that the PSu can handle - your actual draw is probably much less.

this one here should be more than adequate for you and likely you could get by with a cheaper one too.
