^ that site shows all the skills old descriptions and should help a bit.

To view older skill descriptions, you can also go to http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cate...ills_(Factions), click on a skill like shelter and click on the history link on the top, right part of the page. This will list every change to the skill description page. They might not all be a change to the skill itself but should give you a good idea.
Example: http://guildwars.wikia.com/index.php...er&oldid=70701 (Shelter's orig. description)
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shelter (and it's current description).
Also, the big nerf was to lowering spirit's max health and increasing the health sacrifice on most spirits, especially the defensive ones that were part of the Ritual Lord build from early factions.
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:Rt/any_Ritual_Lord
Just to add, originally ritualists ran alongside monks as secondary healers and protters with the Ritual Lord build that I posted above. Months later, they nerfed the Rit Lord build and spirits in general. Since then, we've moved on to being hybrid, secondary healers and primary buffers (splinter, ARage, etc).

Notethat you also used to be able to have multiple spirits of the same name...
The arenas were a ridiculous place.

In terms of MMs in general, heroes almost always do it better.

Well sheesh, if Heroes always do it better, all the time, why don't we replace all the players with AI, and watch them play the game for us for hours on end?
Oh right, those are called action movies. And well, there hasn't been a good one in a while. Guess I'll go back to playing MY game the way I want to, HAHA.

Nice assumption, bro, but unless minion bombing is the only thing you ever play, then it's by no means "always."
The reason they do better at minion bombing is that they don't need to target minions via mouse and they always know which ones have which enchantments on.

The skill it self is fine, they just need to bring back the rest of the build to how it was before the nerf.

Shelter, primarily. Union wasn't nerfed too much, and the change to Displacement is a kind of double-edged sword (less powerful while it's up, but it stays up for longer...) but Shelter is pretty much useless nowadays.

It's going off-topic, but I'm told the Order of Undeath build is one that can be run better by a competant player than a hero... and which can also be more effective than the builds heros use.
And to be frank, I must admit that with hero mesmers and rangers around, I've developed a tendency to let them handle the reactive interrupts and bringing more proactive disruption myself (although typically with at least one reactive interrupt on my own bar for when there's a Meteor Shower or something being cast and the AI has apparently already blown its interrupt stack).
