Does anyone else think after four years these collectors turned out to be somewhat useless. Collectors are all over each continent but their are maybe 4-5 worth collecting for. The ninja mask, and all of those sorts of collectibles but everything else seems kinda pointless.
Should they completely axe this out of Guild Wars 2 or will they find use out of it.
What do you guys think should be to replace it or make it better.
The Pre-Sear collector seems to be a big step forward for something to collect but I would like to see a cool concept for this game-wide and not just one guy worth collecting for.
Collectors useless?

I don't see why they want to remove collectors in gw2. Even if players don't find them usefull anymore, they don't do any harm right? And as you're saying after 4 years they arent used anymore.. So at the start they were. Isnt gw2 going to be a fresh start? So probably they will have use again. Also <3 to the 40/40 weapon set crafters. Or for an high energy set. I think they are getting more used they you think. They just should add more different skins to them, as they kind of all have the same ones.

I kinda like collectors, farm trophys for 10 min, and get a perfect 20/20 offhand in return. I can afford gold ones, but why pay a lot more money for something you can get pretty easy. I like collecters and they shouldnt be removed. Maybe the low-lvl weapon ones are pretty useless (I've never used them) but they can be helpful to some. Cant see how they are doing harm.

I'm guessing that the collectors are still useful to some ppl who are just starting the game.
When I first started playing GW, it was 'kind of fun' to grind out collecting items and trade them to a collector for a "good" weapon.
But like many ppl now, my newly made chars get high end weaps 10 mins after creation, but at the beginning the collectors were a good way to get better equipment at a reasonable cost...at least when you are brand spanking new to GW.

Collectors were used a lot more often in Prophecies, when getting good items was a lot harder to get. Heck, I still have my 45/-2 stance crimson carpace shield, which was the shield EVERY PvE warrior used in PvP because perfect shields were rare preinscription and before greens existed.
While they are less used now, they are still frequently used by newbie players to get armor and weapons (ie, people who don't even have 100g to buy ID kits). They serve their purpose, though I agree that new collectors might be a good idea, and that some collectors are kinda worthless (why are there so many collectors in EotN for instance).

Collectors make getting good weapons on little gold possible. Consider the collector in the Marketplace collecting 5 Putrid Cysts, that gives you a q9 20/20 Fire Staff. You can either craft one for 5k+materials, buy one from a player for at least 5k+, or use some of them things you get just by playing the game. Even for armor, sure you lose your insignia slot but it's a good option if you are waiting to get 15k armor or simply don't have 10k to blow on the gold cost and materials. New players need this stuff, and veterans can get shinies from their heroes.
Seems simple enough to me.

I have been playing guild wars for 42 months, and I still use collectors a lot! I use them for hero weapons, weapons for new friends, or when I want to try a different weapon, and don't feel like dishing out the money for one.
I also just made a new necromancer, and I know which elite armor I will get him. I got collector's armor temporarely, so I don't waste money on mats. Monstruous claws/eyes/fangs... expensive... so I'd rahter use collector's armor until I buy the elite version.

there are actually a few items that are worth more from collectors than the items they collect (so you get the drops--trade them in and then sell the collector items)....also there are a lot of collectors that have scrolls which are very useful.
and yes, many of the max collector weapons are just as good if not better than many greens, gold or other drops.

After four years there are now a staggering number of weapons/mods floating around the player market. Wasn't the case in beginning. GW2 is also starting fresh and there will again be a need for quick access to various weapons and mods before the new market can get into full swing.

Make their items inscribed, Or at least make shields and wands accept their upgrades, and their skins different in each region. People will definitely use them more, if you also add a weapon upgrade trader.
I only used collectors for some staves when Heroes were added, but now most of them have /bonus, greens an some gold stuff. Almost all my Zheds and Sousukes had Lotus staves for quite a lot of time.
Lotus staves are great because they are a different skin.
- 1 for The Crystal Desert
- 1 for The rest of Prophecies' Tyria
- 1 for Shing Jea and Kaineng
- 1 for Echovald
- 1 for Jade Sea
- 1 for Istan and Kourna
- 1 for Vabbi
- 1 for The Desolation
Each should have each one different skin of common skins that drop in the area for their collectors. For example, luxon collectors should have Jade skins. Those things drop all over the place like if monsters were made out of them, but it's boring having the same skins in collectors there than in Kaineng and the Kurzick side.
But removal is out of the question. Their items may be boring (with a few proud exceptions) but they are quite usable if you need something for low price and can waste the time farming the trophies.

I miss the collectors with obscure items when Prophecies was the only game.
There was a collector by Serenity Temple that had a bow that was:
11-18 piercing damage
33% faster fire rate
10% chance of missing
Yep.... that was an interesting bow....
But I do use collectors for Hero items and sometimes items for myself if I don't want to bother buying/farming a cool weapon.

I say keep them. I havn't used collectors that much lately, the exception being that Fire staff Ariena Najea mentioned. However, I think they're a really nice idea, and they were very helpful to me and many others when we were just starting out.
Plus they're a nice idea to. Sometimes you don't want to just buy a weapon, it's kind of fun to get something special.

Collectors still serve purporse. Could be that veterans no longer have reason to collect new gear, but they still hold value for new players. And that is their purporse, equip newbies. They guarantee that everyone can get items they need without having to be lucky.
They do not have to have lasting value, just like mission does not have to be replayable hundreds of times.
(Hawk: EOTN collectors are actually usefull as they offer shields with +30hp and empty incription slot. awesomeness. There is kinda lot of them, but that only means that you can trade everything you get for something usefull.)
