Getting banned for cussing in pvp

How likely is this ?

My alliance people (I don't like my alliance) said that some guys were going back and forth on JQ local chat, so they screenshotted it, submitted it to Anet, and one of them got his $50+ account deleted within 6 hours.

That kind of gave me a cold chill since I like to cuss and think that it's just a fun part of pvp... like today I said shut up faggot on local, and once I called a wastrel's collapse sin a bitch on AB. Will I get banned for this kind of thing ?

I thought GW had a chat filter, and you could only get banned for attempting to bypass it... but idiots on my alliance getting some guy banned is really scary.

I thought it was usually a tempban? I could be wrong. Or possibly that particular person who got his account deleted has been reported multiple times, and that was simply the last infraction.

How do you know the guy got banned and his account got deleted?

Deleted seems highly unlikely. It's probably just a 24 hour ban.

And they've become pretty strict on swearing these days, so I wouldn't cuss *too* much. Especially not stuff like faggot and shit like that.

i got a 72 hour ban for calling about 5 people the n word.

1. Accounts don't get deleted. ArenaNet just blocks them from use.

2. Reasons for permanent blocks (other than account selling/buying) usually fall under the cheating or attempting to cheat category. This covers exploits such as duping and bots.

3. If you get reported for other infractions of the EULA (have you ever read the legal section of guildwars.com?), and the reports are validated, you get marks on your account record. When you accumulate enough you get temp blocked. Accumulate a lot over a short period of time and you might get a long term block.

4. Don't believe everything other players tell you about account blocks. Most of it is hearsay or outright lies.

5. Incidental swearing in chat is not often reported or punished. What does get reported and acted upon is calling people derogatory names or making personal attacks. That falls under the verbal abuse section of the reporting system.

I'd advice you to stop doing it. It's not "fun", and while I myself don't mind, some people do, and they will report you.

Your account will never get deleted by the way. That's just a myth. You'll most likely get a temporally ban, duration depending on how many times you've been banned before/how bad you behaved.

Don't get pissed at people and start swearing at them. Get pissed at them and start dissing their build. That usually gets players to rage a whole lot more, and it sounds a lot less verbally abusive.

Of course, if their build isn't bad, and you're getting yourself owned by them, don't say anything back, because you'll just make yourself look more stupid.

There's hardly a reason for you to swear in PvP, or anywhere in GWars, it's just stupid.

Also, like everyone else said before me, the user wouldn't have gotten deleted, just temp banned. But, if I were you, I'd watch out for getting reported for swearing or "verbal abuse". I mean, personally I don't care much for swearing but some players do and they will report you. I'd hate for that to happen to me.

Well, I should think that if you just swear - as in, 'damnit, I made a stupid mistake' - the likelihood of some fellow reporting you is pretty low. Just as long as you don't go over the top.

They shouldn't ban them , just shut down their chat privileges for x amount of time. That would be way more effective when they couldn't answer anyone and had to explain out of game why they got a "time out" lol

Especially when the only reason he won was that I couldn't switch to my hammer. It's just when people chase me down with hexes, snare me by mobs, etcetera, doing stupid mean shit just for a free kill. When I see my teammates chasing single enemies I usually order them to stop.

As far as insulting over builds, yes, some awful monk did bring my sexual orientation into the discussion about builds... also some cripslasher I kicked was all about like I've guested rawr etcetc I've only seen them lose.

I would too. But what i hate most is those annoying 13 yr old kids using racial slurrs in local chat, if i catch anyone doing that, i report straight away.

And at the end of the day, its a game dude, there should be nothing to get worked up about. Now i totally hate it when im chased by a sin with a two-bit pvxwiki build, then i turn around, beat that bitch, but afterwards he knows hes been beaten, he doesn't require me to start mouthing him off in chat. Although i am very tempted when you get those people shouting "OMG runner noob" when its a mob comming towards you, or "Could you kite any more stupid ranger" becuase the most likely answer is, yes i could ktie some more. But i just suck it up, and ignore them.

But the true worst of it all, is when someone does beat me in 1v1 and i say "GJ, nice build" they start mouthing me off "Stupid Noob" "Get a better Build" When theyre most likely running a pvxwiki build.

You don't have the right to personally attack someone, no matter what they're doing. That would definately deserve a /report and most likely a ban
