Characters should show age, wear and tear.....
Daian Namgnik
I have a nearly-four year old character with over 4 million XP, and he still looks as baby-face fresh as the day he left pre-searing. You'd think after all his battles, campaigning and continent jumping (and the million foot-miles it takes to become a Master Mapper) that he'd at least have a stubble, maybe a scar or two, perhaps a slight limp, bags under the eyes, or even a beer belly??
Any thoughts of having characters evolve a slight change in appearance, say every million XP?
Just a thought.

ahaha... good idea man. I suprisingly like it, some battle scar or something would be epic. Sadly my assassin would look fked up if it was every million exp.... he has 24 million lol.
KoKoS
dun like it >.<
besides, what if someone didn't want his char to evolve and they liked him the way he is.. would they be forced to stop gaining exp with that char..?
(and female chars would look yucky with bags under eyes and beer bellies..! xP)

There should however be an option at character creation to have your character look whatever age you wish.

I like my monkette because she will forever be fresh and juicy. So i'll pass.

I like my characters as they are, even after almost 4 years.
And besides that, I only like updates that may improve the fun of playing
the game... getting some scars wouldnt keep me goin

Imagine taking a break for 3 months and seeing all your characters overweight on the login screen.
Archress Shayleigh
lol ^. i think there should be a age meter at character creation. that's all.
jiggles
No thanks, i love the way my necro looks right now. Why would i want to change that?
chocodiledundee
It would be like GTA:SA where you ran around forever and a day trying to get rid of your belly or get food in the middle of a mission cos you were hungry
Lourens
I don't realy like the idea I love my chicks and I wouldn't like them to be full of scars and a beer belly lolz .
And if you want your characters to become older you might wanna try Fable .

Not an easy thing to implement, and not something that would go over well. Taking scars based on the number of deaths or wrinkles based on age, etc. would make people hate the way their character looks, or stop doing things to allow those changes. This is a game, if you want reality, turn on the TV, not the computer. Neither show reality, but TV at least makes you think it does.

Lots of emphasis on Scars Beerbellys and sagging bodies.
People leading an active lifestyle like adventuring all day everyday not to mention always running would look good for a long time.
So I am not against characters starting at whatever age they like and ageing as the game progresses.
As long as its real time ageing so lets see my characters are just over 3 years into the game so If I started at 18 they are now 21.
If I keep playing GW another 20 years they should still look pretty good.
Anet could always add youth potions and spells for the peter pans of the game.
edit OOPS I forgot the searing, have to add those years to my characters age

nice idea, but it will push GW's graphic requirement pretty close to oblivion's, and cause most computers used by the playerbase to asplode.

They don't age because they are frozen in time, like everything in GW.
pre-Searing is frozen 8 years before the death of the Great Destroyer, The Wall if frozen 6 years before that, and so on.

MithranArkanere makes a valid point.
If characters age, then the environment would have to age with it. That's not possible in an MMO.

it would be neat if at certain experience mile markers. (5mil, 10mil, 20mil, 40mil, etc etc), new facial options become available to add to ur character's existing appearance. scars, facial hair, graying hair, etc. of course, implementing such a system would be quite complex and it would take a lot of work to design all the new appearances. =(
MithranArkanere
Even in the very same area, every single separate spot is frozen in time.
One of the best places to see that is Gandara. Walk to the south and dusk will come, walk north and dawn will bring the day again.

I agree that it's a good idea, IF it were optional at character creation... I think it would be a good idea to also implement a restoration character if you choose that you want to back to the way things were before the aging process... Also if you acquire certain scars, wrinkles and stubble that you like, maybe having an NPC that you can visit to 'lock' that look in, would be a good idea....
As for the ladies, what if the aging process allowed you to add just a touch of silver streaks to your hair and you could lock that in?

I like the idea, but there are definitely some cons.
Most people have expressed that they like their characters the way they are, which is fine. I would like to see some wear and tear. Perhaps there could be a checkbox, kind of like helmets and capes?
"Hide evolution"
Everyone's character could certainly evolve, but having the box checked would hide the scars, stubble, beer belly, etc. and leave your character "minty fresh". If you wanted them to look trashed, you would uncheck the box and BAM! Instant aging.

Maybe they could add new emotes and even dances to mark years or xp time in the game.
It would drive the new players nuts.
ceolstan
Nope. I'm not into that much immersion. I like my fantasy that I can die a thousand deaths and still have a baby-faced monk.
If appearance reflected reality, I'd need for my characters to be greenish-grey, with bits of their limbs sewn on.
No thanks!

Nah Not Signet for this, if you want reality, it should be like D2 Hardcore, when you die, you cant play the character ever again, thats realistic, huh..
daraaksii
Go play fable.

Make scars/defects drop like an item during a battle then you can "equip" your char with it.

Anet just need to make character creation ALLOT BETTER then it is now. If we own all campaigns we should have access to all faces, hairstyles etc no matter where we make that character.
Tired of making a character that has a good face but shit hair. :P

Fable was one idea that included effects on aging, appearance and damage (scars) on your character and while it was a novel idea, many times you end up looking like something you didn't really want to evolve with.
MithranArkanere
Yeah. Time passes way too fast, so you always end up as a 60 years old man. Even when your sister and everyone else is still young.
Owik Gall
Not possible in this kind of a game. Why not keep that in mind for GW2? At least the fact that we don't know the limits of that game can give this idea a fighting chance.
Empress Amarox
I don't like the idea, my characters are pretty for a reason.
An option for people that want it? Nah. Just a more diverse character creation, and I wouldn't suggest this for GW1 as it will NEVER happen with the resources they have now. GW2 suggestion? Sure. It'd be nice to have a lot more customization options. Though, scars wouldn't be high on my list, it's still not a horrible option to give.

I agree with the call for a better character creation for GW2 lets leave it at that.
The current game doesn't cover a long enough time for age to count for much.
If this included the ability to go back and make changes esp hair it would make a number of players happy if past posts are anything to go by.

Although I couldn't care less about the physical appearances of my characters through aging, it WOULD be nice to see a natural deterioration or signs of wear and tear on armor and weapons. Thus making it a bit more realistic. Back in the early days of MUDS, both of these concepts were in place. So this is far from a new idea.
Kattar
The point is, Legendary Green, the story is non-linear. I can play Nightfall before Prophecies.
Does that mean I'm going back in time? Of course not. Aging a player in Guild Wars doesn't work because of that.
I'm all for battle scars and damage, but that's just one step closer to item and armor durability - just like WoW. So, no thanks.

Well, at first it sounds kinda cool, but it'd have to be optional and you'd have to be able to control what you get somewhat. But thinking about it brings up lots of probs.
I mean, my warrior getting a scar or two, cool. Or getting gray hair or stubble is fine. But having to run droks every few days or getting a beer belly? Funny at first, but later? No thanks.
And my female ele, I don't want aging to some old crone. And considering what female ele's have for armour, the scarring would be something that I don't think anyone would want to see. And imagine what all those monks and necros in there scar and tattoo armours would look like? Might be cool on a male necro. But a female necro or monk? Do not want.
Which causes a problem with it being optional. I mean, if I don't want to see it on my character? Fine, switch off like capes and helms. But what about partying with other people? Like I said, I'd rather not see some mass scarring on a female monk, but what happens if the monk in your party decides to show it on his character? You can't just go into their inventory and toggle off what they look like anymore than you can switch off seeing their capes or helms if they have it on. And you can bet there will just be some fat, pot-bellied whammo who looks like they haven't bathed EVER in every party, just cause they know it disgusts people. No thanks.
