Experience scrolls help.
But i would recommend taking your time and learning your profession, Prophecies is deliberately slower than the other campaigns (more content for level 20 players). If you rush through the game then you will miss vital tips and skills which will make alot of the later content harder, unlike WoW your armor and weapons won't save you if you make mistakes.

For somebody on their first time through I would suggest you do every possible quest. Quests will be your fastest means of leveling out side of missions.
You should also concider going back to AscalonCity and looking for any quests you might have missed/skipped as you should blow through them with ease at your level.
Did you get all of the missoin BONUS's? If you haven't then now might be a good time to go back and get them too.

Ofcourse might it be better just to follow the storryline and learn your profession, but if you want to level up fast, you can go to Marga Coast (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Marga_Coast) in NF. There is a fort with pretty many enemies.
With the bounty given from the preists (just because of the bounties is NF a really good place to level up) + the use of scrolls would end up in pretty fast leveling, it is also a good place to level up your pretty new heroes.
There is probably some better places to level up, but this can you do with just heroes and henchies, it is easy to get to, and you end up with pretty fast leveling as it is not far from the outpost Sunspear sanctuary.
As said, missions (and bonus) + quests is pretty good leveling and it will not get as boring as running around killing things.
I still would recomend following the storryline as it is boring facing lvl 15 mobs with a level 20 character.

Yea, I just hit 20, regular questing style. I can't wait to see what 20 has to offer. Currently I am just helpin the GF level and finish missions I haven't done, etc.
What are some of the things that new 20's usually do?

umm not that many things really. You will continue doing quests and missions like you did before. You can also try PvP, but for that I recommend getting a PvP character so you can trick out your armor and weapons for FREE with unlocked stuff whenever you want. "Bad" armor (as in basic looking but all max) but you can unlock different with tournament reward points.
Crom The Pale
Don't forget that just because your at lvl 20 your not finnished leveling that character just yet.
You likely still need to complete some quests to unlock all of your attribute points. You should have 200 when all are completed.
Once that is done, and you have aquired every skill (or at least all those worth getting for your profession) you need to finish the storyline to unlock Hard Mode. Hard Mode basically lets you replay the entire chapter but raises the level of all foes to equal or higher than what you find in the finnal mission.
PvE wise at that point you should start to look into aquiring money for cool looking armor/weapons. This isn't mandatory by any means, you can get max everything with perfect mods for cheap but the look might not suit you.
Lastly for PvE there are Elite Missions you can partake in as well as Tittles to farm.

Currently I am finishing the Prophecies campaign, and I am started on the nightfall campaign as well.
Wish Swiftdeath
Yeah i wouldn't bother with HM until you've done all the campaigns and storylines. HM is just rehashing the same stuff with mobs on steroids.
musemike
Yepp, I sped way ahead of my gf on leveling so right now I am just running with her, so I don’t do anymore content w/o her. Picking up all the bonuses in the missions we do.

Gandhi nuke war. I just got Medieval 2 Total War my gc can't handle the force if i just went from my nvidia geforce 7100 to a 7800 I'd be able to play on min. TW is epic.

Not much different from what you did before, just continue with the storry (and the other storries, which you've already begun) and enjoy that you are able to use a wider spectrum of builds due to your now (if you've done the attribute point quests) 200 attribute points.

Wow, looks like you're progressing nicely! Now's where the real fun begins. As has been said, you can try your hand at PvP (I'm afraid I've been out of touch with PvP since I converted my Mesmer to a PvE character last winter, so I won't be able to offer much help there other than basic tips), or you can keep plugging away at PvE (which it looks like you're doing, and good move on going for the bonuses you missed). Another important thing is refining your character.
I know that of all my characters, very few were running same build when they first hit level 20 that they still are today. Up 'til now, if you're anything like I was, you'll have been working with a build that you worked out of what skills were given you, adding in ones you bought or learned as you went along. That usually results in a decent, but not stellar, build. At this point I assume you've got a good idea of what kind of build you like to run, so now's the time to start honing it down. Take a look at your bar and see if any skills don't fit the overall theme, or are ultimately inferior to other skills available to you. Here's an example of how one of my builds mutated over time:
My ele, after beating the Doppelganger (if you haven't gotten there yet, everyone's got plenty of advice on what does and doesn't work for when you do), modified that build into something relatively reasonable and ran it for a long time (I was using a Fiery Dragon Sword, which helped provide Burning):
[Aura of Restoration][Conjure Flame][Mark of Rodgort][Sever Artery][Gash][Lava Font]["Victory is Mine!"][Resurrection Signet]
I realized that Lava Font was expensive and, while keeping with the point-blank fire/melee theme, was actually hindering my attack ability because the foes kept fleeing (and it had a long cast time). So I went to Nightfall, picked up Flame Djinn's Haste, and substituted that in, because it also did PBAoE damage, with the added bonus of giving me a movement boost. I also captured Hundred Blades and traded VIM in for that. This was back before they changed the functionality - so instead of causing you to deal AoE slashing damage, it made you attack target foe and all adjacent foes with a damage plus... with whatever damage type the sword was. That was key, because it meant that I could spread burning via Mark of Rodgort to all those foes. Thus, my build morphed into this:
[Aura of Restoration][Conjure Flame][Flame Djinn's Haste][Mark of Rodgort][Sever Artery][Gash][Hundred Blades][Resurrection Signet]
and it worked very well until ANet inadvertently nerfed it while trying to encourage use of Hundred Blades (my fault for using a skill no one else did).
At any rate, what I'm trying to say is that this is the time for making a decent build into a great (or at least good) build. (btw, don't try the melee-ele thing unless you're very adventurous and good at staying alive and you're not afraid of getting yelled at by people who were expecting a nuker.) Be sure to do the attribute points in the Crystal Desert after you Ascend. My Elementalist didn't go back and do those until after she was halfway through Factions, and it really put her back a step. She also neglected to do most of the skill quests as she was playing through Proph, and it's still got repercussions today - her build selection is very limited, because she has more Elite Skills than normal ones. Be sure to do those as you play through the earlier parts again with your GF.
Also, I'll be on a little today and possibly a few other days if you need any help. My ele'd be the one who can help with Proph, IGN Jennarose Mashaba.

Put it like this, guildwars.wikia.com and pvxwiki. As I told you in game, don't copy a pvx build unless its for farming, or you'll turn into a zombie n00b, right now your a fast learning newb. Big dif between newb, and noob, never be a noob. I don't think I can even call you a newb anymore you caught on too fast
Use guildwars.wikia.com and look up skills for your prof. find one you like and form a build.

Out of curiosity, what weapon are you using? I prefer swords and hammers, but I'm learning how to make the axe work as well (have an idea for a replacement for my old MoR Hundred Blades build using Whirlwind Attack, Cyclone Axe, and Triple Chop). I might be able to give a few pointers (probably nothing Wiki couldn't offer, though).

Currently I am using the Hammer from the bonus of the trilogy purchase. Before that I was using swords.
