AB/FA/JQ - Captcha for Leechers

Leeching is still kind of a big issue, although dishonourable has done plenty to improve the playability of RA and other arenas.

Leeching in AB, FA, and JQ is only really profitable if entry is botted. It's really easy to have a Drunkard bot set to 10 minutes, and have it click your enter button. Fall asleep, wake up, and you might just have a few thousand extra faction in your pocket. Automation and persistance is the only way leeching actually pays off. If a person has to be present to hit enter, then

Some other suggestions, like a vote-kick system, or giving the mouse pointer a subtle drift, simply won't work. Voting can be done with the current dishonor system, and scripts use co-ordinates to move the cursor to where it needs to be. In RA, some bots are warriors with c-space and 1,2,3 programmed in. They are obviously bots when they pick up the flag, but can easily

My suggestion is a Captcha. When you hit enter, you're prompted with a short set of simple and easy multiple choice questions, or a line of text to enter. It would be like:

What is the third skill you have equipped?
What secondary profession are you?
Who's Great Temple is on the Battle Isles?
Are you sure you want to enter?
What is the proper spelling of the number 10?

Or even something like:

"The angry grey grawl leaped over the furry charr."
What is the second and second to last words in the past sentence?
How many words in this sentence are blue?
How many e's are shown?

Now, if you do not want to inconvenience regular players at all, simply tie the Captcha to an account for 3-7 days after they have earned dishonourable. This way, they can't come back with an automated bot.

And of course, an AB/FA/JQ thread wouldn't be complete without a request for a method to exchange faction 1:1 between Luxon and Kurzick at the cost of some gold or skill points. This would allow players to pick the side with less players, letting them play the game instead of waiting in a queue.

So, while the counter is counting down from 30, you must answer a question in order to enter?

Yes, it will be annoying to answer it a lot but

AB/FA/JQ - bots = win

I don't think the bots are the only things leeching. Some people are being real jerks and go in an arena just to mess around and cause its team to lose. I haven't seen any bots whenever I go to any of those arenas, really. So, through my observation the bot leeching isn't the biggest problem. It's the players joining in just to cause trouble and ruining the fun for the rest of the team mates.

Besides, your method is too inconvenient for the former and not effective enough for the latter.

I have been playing some FA recently and it pisses me off when the match starts and within 3 seconds if someone is not running toward that portal to start on the Kurzick side you got people pinging the hell out of the map saying REPORT THE LEECH! I am not sitting in front of my computer for minutes on end counting down 3,2,1 restart timer...3,2,1..restart timer you get the point. I go get something to drink, use the restroom, play my guitar surf on guru and I check back every couple of min to see if the match has started. If anything people should not be able to report someone until a few minutes after the match starts.

First of all, there have been several threads very similar to this in the past year. Search is there for a reason.

I hope you understand that many of the "bots" there are actually players who went to the other side on their second account, in order to better their chances on their primary account.

All that needs to happen is for the number of people required to report someone, in order for the reporters to not receive dishonor points, to decrease. People don't report leechers because reporting probably won't help them in the slightest, and can possibly result in them accruing points.

Dishonourable is dishonourable. Making that a better system against obvious leechers will help, and will also happen.

No queue is equal to no reason to AFK. Queue sucks for this reason among many.

1+1=?

If the players can't answer that they obviously shouldn't be playing

Even a simple math question like the one mentioned in a previous post.
1+1=?
5+5=?

Whatever, but do something.

I'm uber-sick of leechers and morons that don't know how to use the report system.

I agree bots and leechers in JQ/FA are terrible, but having to answer a question to enter JQ/FA would be retarded.
There is easy other ways to fix it, like banning bots when they are reported. Or banning leechers when they are persistent leechers. Frankly, ArenaNet is too retarded to figure this out themselves and instead ban people for having a tag that is russian for bitch.

Short set of multiple choice questions?... I think 1 is enough.

Hmmm... I will /sign this if there aren't any other ways. Leechers need to die.

Math questions would probably be more feasible and easier to implement than storing a database of word questions.

The questions proposed in the OP are just stupid. Who wants to sit there counting "e"s?.... just put in one simple arithmetic question. Very minor inconvenience and it should work well to kill leechers and bots.

How about a extra deployment zone

inside there is "simple" quest task, inside -those that fail -gets kicked from the deployment

examples
Quest objective -talk to commander
quest objective -take right portal
quest objective -activate skill number x

The quest objective task can also be inside the challenge, those that fail there will get no reward.

quest objective -explore "colour" mine/gate
