Perma-pre Combination
someone3426
I wanna make a character that will remain in pre-searing. What combination of professions would be best suited to do this?
zelgadissan
D/A, obviously.
Honestly, it doesn't matter one bit. I've seen all six professions as Legendary Defenders of Ascalon. I imagine necro would be the hardest with a nearly useless primary (never thought I'd say that) when deathleveling and no Soul Reaping skills in Prophecies.
If you're just there for fun, pick a profession that you enjoy and go with it. Personally the two characters of mine that spent significant time in pre were my mesmer and my ranger (Melandru's Stalker FTW).

that was sarcasm Aussie, went over you apparentely
i think the best prof would be mesmer or ranger
they both have decent damage skills and good healing skills for pre.

Artisan Archer
R/W = lazor pew pew
No seriously, it's a good combo, and easy to play.

hooded player
I like Mo/E in pre just cuase it has healing and 2 AoE skills
The Air Revenger
R/W bring pet to tank and use frenzy + RtW for owning charr (also if you have the GotY you can get a max bow)
Or a mo/e with firestorm and a imp would also be good

Antares Ascending
.
Ranger or warrior primary, maybe ele prime with monk prot spells works to.
Troll unguent works wonders!
I recently popped a new char in pre and at level 8 cleared the Northlands with a Necro/Mesmer ( mes with no attributes ) with the help of the Fire Imp.
The imp realy makes it a no brainer for general hunting but would be a major detriment in Death Leveling. The lil bugger is hard to kill and would wipe to many Charr after you died ( dunno if you get exp for this but I think not ).
Anyways.. I have a ranger that just works like a charm. Decent armor, healing and if using a pet you can just flag it to avoid to prevent kills after you die at the rez shrine. That said, I would avoid pets/Imp once death leveling to prevent noexp kills after waiting hours to level the group ypu just pulled.
A good ref for D/leveling can be found at: http://www.presearing.com/

warrior/ranger can straight up tank groups of 4 with heal sig + troll, but u will want the imp to kill stuff. otherwise, prolly go ranger ;-) especially if u get the bonus bow =D

If you have bonus weapons, i'd choose w or r because of the max dmg weapons
(2 diffrent bows, and a sword and a shield. the rest is either not very useful (soulshrieker, clockstaff) or only 1 hand (mesmer, ele, monk))
with r the armorbonus against elemental dmg is also very nice.

Warrior/Ranger, Ranger/Warrior, Necromancer, Elementalist are all great classes to choose from. However, any class can be viable in presearing; the mesmer has [Empathy] and [Backfire]. And of course, monk is always a good choice to play with.
Ariena Najea
Although many guides I have read claim otherwise, I've found Elementalist to be excellent for soloing, farming, and charr hunting. I'm a "fake" Ranger, meaning I haven't accepted the profession but have access to the skills, and use my pet to help tank foes.
Here is my bar:
[flare][fire storm][blinding flash][glyph of lesser energy][aura of restoration][troll unguent][comfort animal][charm animal]
Having [[Troll Unguent] helps me get into a position to hit more foes at a time with [[Fire Storm] without having to stop to cast for an [[Aura of Restoration] heal.

sadly, RMT >>> Pre.
so if you got a Fire Imp you can go with anything, you don't even need any attribute points and can go with an empty skillbar, and unarmed, the imp is a god and can tank and kill everything. Ofcourse it makes things incredibly boring aswell...
But if you look for a truly enjoyable experience, use none of those imbalanced /bonus crap. Then choose a profession YOU can have the most fun playing with, they're all capable of surviving and killing everything. And if you're going for LDoA you may not want to do any quests, even those for secondary profession before you get to level 16 (or even a little better, to 19).
Without becoming a secondary profession you can still use some basic skills of them, just no attribute points for them.

Pretty much anything can work in Pre. My perma-pre character is W/Me. Yes, it's such a pointless combination. But you know what? It certainly can be fun to play and I enjoy it (even though usually I hate warrior), and that's the most important thing.
Hanging Man
tasha
My perma is Mo/..... nothing. If you're doing LDoA the guides will suggest that you don't do any of the secondary quests (besides grabbing a couple of skills) before you hit level 16 as the quest rewards will mean you have less death levelling to do at the end. That being said, my monk has a pet which is entirely pointless but its fun anyway.
Generally Mesmers and Rangers are slightly better equipped to deal with soloing but any combination is viable.

I'll remind everyone to post constructively and add to the discussion. If you post a combination, explain why you chose it. Posts such as "Primary/Secondary" 12 chars" will be deleted.

My Perma-pre character is a Mes/Ele which i have found to be a great combination. Besides that, most of your weapons/runes usually sell cheap. Find you a max staff, with a +18% Dom. magic, and some health and you will be good to go. What is great about the Mes/Ele is you can pretty much do all of your damage behind walls and terrain without exposing yourself to too much damage. I don't even bother with the imp. I would be glad to help you in game.

Perma pre toons here...
This depends mostly on your fighting style. If you like in your face then War/ranger
If you want to kill them fast then Monk/ele
Why monk?? Shielding hands and Symbol of wrath.
Ele for Firestorm. This is the BEST skill bar none in all of pre.
For farming mobs in pre just round them up...and hit the fire imp. Its first shot will kill everything. Poof.
So for killing char and fast I like my lvl 18 war/ranger with Glacial Blade 15-22 damage and 18% vrs Charr and the lvl 18 fire imp. I can do a boss wopas* in 3 minutes flat once I am in the door.
For farming Groups I use one of my Monk/Ele. I have 3 to choose from. They all have shielding hands/Healing breeze/Firestorm - only one has access to the fire imp on my main account.
Remember that when in the northlands the Charr Chaots will remove enchantments and the charr war will remove stances.
Sir Earl Lionheart has the right idea with the "run and hide" for ranged toons to take less damage. If you did this and had the fire imp and you were lets say lvl 12 you could mash the charr in very short time.
However at a higher lvl you not necessarily would increase your kill time as the charr now move more then they used to requiring one more blast of Firestorm to finish them off. Pesky rangers!!!

I had a Perma-Pre Warrior, who, like Ariena was a "fake Ranger" secondary. Once I reached level 11, I death-leveled the Wolf outside of Ashford Abbey at the Rez Shrine down inside Ashford to a level 15 Dire Wolf (go go extra damage!).
I used the EotN pre-order bonus Glacial Blade (the only downside is that it is +15%^enchanted, and as a Warrior/"Ranger" you won't have any enchants) and the GotY bonus Bladed Shield (-2^stance, +30hp). With both the EotN pre-order and GotY bonus bows (Darksteel Longbow has a 20/20 Sundering String, Nevermore Flatbow just looks bad-ass) for pulling, I was decked out.
Charr really don't stand a chance when you are fully decked out. It's sad.

I Normally use a Warrior with Fake Ranger secondary.
Use Glacial Blade with runes and Charrslaying Mod.
And Ranger is also good but i prefer war.

Mesmer with /E for GoLE is definitely the best, solos fast and can start as early as 6 or 7 solo. Getting your dual monk timings down takes a bit but it's a lot of fun
