I would like to see more warning boxes.
Junato
For example, when deleting a character I would like to see a warning dialog box saying in these words, "You will be erasing 'x' amount of items as well as not recovering this account in the near future." Through my studies in Neuro-linguistic Programming this sentence ultimately makes the user understand what is at stake and will then exercise proper care.
I would have to say that this is a lot better considering what I previously thought. It was when you delete a character you will have 48 hours to change your mind and recover it. I find that the warning box is more practical and helpful.

I've always thought that having to type the name of the character you're trying to erase was a pretty good guard against accidental deletion of the wrong character. If you don't check to see what's on the character your about to delete, no amount of warning boxes are going to save those items. Waiting periods can be nice, maybe for level 20 PvE characters, or ones with a high age. In cases like PvP characters or a new character changed my mind about the face in game, it's just annoying.
samerkablamer
It already says "are you sure you wish to delete X character?", then you haev to type in the name of the character. If that is not enough time to realize "oh, i don't wanna delete him" then theres something wrong

Hmm, Anet could spend their time doing better things. But because of my stupidity i've deleted some nice weapons / alot of money through not properly checking (Usually because the nice weapons are on heroes i forgot about ¬_¬) /signed.

Or, from now on, think about what stuff is on your character before deleting it.
If Anet added a few warning boxes, people would just click through them after they've seen the message pop up when they deleted other characters.

Agree with this. Unless you're deleting shit while stoned or something. More warning boxes wouldn't make a difference anyway.
DarkNecrid
Agreed, but only if there's a warning sign when you go to enter Kamadan and Random Arenas.
Snograt
I think it would be a better idea (for the more careless among us) if it were just impossible to delete a character that had any gold or items whatsoever. That way you would have to empty a character's inventory totally before you were able to delete it.
Eragon Zarroc
it would be nice if it warned us of having items etc on the character before deleting

there have been nights when I play for hours on end until the wee sun comes up.
and me, being the dumb ass that I am, in a sleepy stupor almost deleted my Pve Mesmer instead of my Pvp mesmer. [I don't know why I have two]
Needless to say, I realized what I was doing half-way, but it could happen.

I could sure go for a better warning system when salvaging player armor, a couple days ago while moving runes from hero to hero I foolishly salvaged my own primeval leggings xD xD xD (late night GW is dangerous) even my collector title couldn't save me they were broken.
Signed for that.

I can't be bothered to trash the items.
So, I am not in favor of this suggestion.
Shayne Hawke
Why not log onto the character to check out its inventory before you delete it?
This really is not necessary.

I want LESS not more. If youre that worried about selling items then put them behind something unsellable.
and characters well if you delete them on accident...no comment.
I get tired of having to always say yes I want to sell something. I clicked sell didnt I?

Well whoopdidoo, I still don't support this suggestion.
If I want to delete a PvP character, with 2-3 sets of armor and numerous weapons, I'd really hate a message that says: 'O, you gotta move all your stuff one by one to the trash bin before you can delete me'.

You have to click a button then type the name of a character to delete it which is just fine in my view. If you can't be arsed actually logging in and checking its an empty toon before you do that then that pretty much tough luck.
Also I don't agree on having to empty it first. If I have a PvP character with a complete inventory of weapons then I dont want to have to waste my time deleting every single item just becuase of a system put in place due to idiots not being able to understand the nature of the delete system.

no need for extra warnings imo
KrisNaga
Im sick of warning boxes, there a pain, I don't need reminding of what im doing, You just use common sense and if people are stupid enough to delete stuff they did want then it's there own fault.
Shasgaliel
I agree with an idea of more warning boxes in general but during character deletion it is unnecessary. Anyway it would be nice if there would be more of them to make option to disable them as well.
Raccoon
People who just randomly delete characters without checking whats on them deserve to lose items through it.
MagmaRed
If it took a lot of time and energy to check a character and its heroes, I'd sign. But since it doesn't I won't. Seriously, it does not take long to look through a characters inventory. Stop being lazy, and just take an extra 2 minutes to delete a character..... or less if you know what you are doing.

WE HAVE A THREAD WINNER!!
No point in this thread, to be honest there OP I'm surprised that with your high amount of implied laziness that you even bothered to post the thread in the first place.
As for "This will be saved for 48 hours" well won't that just bugger up the whole server information storage issue that ANet already has? Not to mention the "BOO HOO WHAA WHAA" threads that will ensue when some says "OMG HAXZORS I CUNDNT LOG GWS AND 49 HOURS NOW MY CHARACTER GONE! FIX NOAW" Yeah ANEt wuld deal with thousands of people who delete a character and then try to recover it after the 48 hour period and then complain.
Just don't be lazy and stupid, I do understand that for some that is a life choice they've made and there is no way around it, but for other folks it's a non issue.
Reverend Dr
It should follow this format.

Are you sure you want to delete this character? No really, you are about to delete this character anything that is on it will be gone forever. Are you certain that you are in the correct state of mind to be able to make the rational decision to delete this character? Okay I get it you are serious, now please type the character's name again. Seriously, this is like an execution for an online character are you sure that you want to go through with it? Okay, now write a 1500 word short-essay justifying the actions that you have taken. You know, that character could have items on them, you'd lose those. Are you sure you don't want to go check? If you delete them you'll lose them forever, maybe there was something you forgot about. You really don't want to go check? Maybe the character just got a new birthday gift since you last logged on, those can be worth a lot. I mean, you have been on this screen for a good while, it is entirely possible. Okay I get it. FINE! I just feel this character is due some respect, please write a short epitaph for a memorial (note: the epitaph will be deleted alone with the character, we just feel that it is necessary for memorial). Are you sure you want to delete this character? |

Typing in your character's name is an effective enough of a method.
Perhaps if your character has heroes it could say in big bold letters that you should check them before you delete above the "type in the name" box.

I'd like it to be more like a game instead of a bank security system, don't think we need all those precautions.
