SKill points

Hi all. I searched for this topic already being discussed, but honestly didn't look through every page, so sorry if it is a repeat.

I have 4 level 20 PvE's who I have been trying to PvP with more and more every day. Since I do not have every skill unlocked yet, I do not want to delete one to make a PvP only char. This forces me to buy or quest for a lot of the skills I need for different builds for CA or tombs. I have been changing professions for different builds and such. My problem is, I have plenty of cash and all, but I ran out of skill points. I would just like to know what the actual purpose of skill points are? Obviously to buy skills, but if we have to pay a plat each for them, why must we also have to have an available skill point? Let me just add that I've spent no less than 50 plat just on skills for different chars. When I PvP with one of my chars, sure, I do get some faction which can unlock skills for me. But, I just think it would be more fair if we PvE'ers could just have to pay with gold. And just drop the skill points.

So, I would appreciate some kind of help with this. Sympathy at least...lol.

It seems kind of foolish for me to HAVE to go out and farm for skill points to be able to buy my skills needed for different builds I wanna try. And let me repeat, that I do not want to delete any of my 4 chars to make a PvP only char until I have all the elites(at least) unlocked.

If it only took gold then you could have a level 3 get most all of the skills at Ember Light Camp by either buying gold or transferring from other characters/guildies.

I'll state the obvious that the first 3 toons could have covered all 6 profession and so 3 level 20s have access to all skills with plenty of left over skill points.

Hopefully we'll see at least one additional character slot with chapter 2 so some of this will go away.

If a level 3 can get to Ember Light Camp, do you seriously think it is neccessary to stop them from buying skills? The low level 1on1 arenas are already ruined by Drok armor anyway. I guess I just don't really see the point in making my level 20 farm to earn more skill points.

Ah well, I guess I'll go do DNKP, and the rest of the Titan quests for some more.

edit: or maybe it would be nice to share your skill points accross all your toons? That would solve my problem for sure. Since my others are efficient farmers. One even has 138 unused points. Well maybe I could buy all the skills with that one and then delete the one least used. But then if they issue another character slot with chapter 2, I'd be pissed for deleting one of my existing. *sigh*

I guess my view is that if you want to do PvE then there are more than enough skill points awarded just by playing thru the game. I have 6 level 20's and have done a lot of 2nd profession switching to try other builds and have never run out of skill points. I've only acquired the free skills and the ones I wanted for the new builds, I haven't hunted down all the elites for any profession.

If you're planning to do PvP then you should plan on 3 or fewer characters collecting skills in PvE and the last slot for a PvP toon which will benefit from the unlocks from PvE plus what you earn in PvP. So the skill points are sufficient for this as well. If you could stand it, a single warrior/monk could farm up enough XP and change 2nd profs enough to unlock all you'd need.

I sympathize though, I'm not wanting to delete any of my characters either, but I have a primary for each profession so it is easier for me to play what I want at most any given time.

I'd say that if you are able to do PvP OK now then wait for the expanded character slots in chapter 2.

Yeah the extra spot(s) would help. Unless of course they allow 2 more spots and have 2 new professions. Either way...snafu

My monk does have 139 unused points. My ranger has about 50 from UW trapping. And my warrior has a bunch also. But my mesmer is where I'm having the problems. I could unlock just about everything with monk I guess. I'll still wait and see what chapter 2 bring before I make any decisions, I suppose. Thank though.

The problem with unlocking things with one character is that you still can't use them other than on the character that unlocks them until you have a spot for a PvP character.

I have a feeling that they will do as you said, add another slot for each new profession, but time will tell.

You'll need the skill points to unlock the additional skills in Chapter 2 that will be available, save them.

Hopefully they will allow atleast another 3 slots in chap2, i want to play each new profession, but i also want a pvp slot and atm ive used the 4 on my main account, i'm also closing in on 100% unlocked but with no pvp slot to use it on its useless, i understand that pve chars have an edge over pvp chars due to the wider array of weapons and unique weapons available in pve but a pvp slot is more flexible so when they add this rook of new skills i can experiment with the new secondary options on the current professions without spending large amounts of money on skills.
