Bad, bad item selection on ArenaNet's part.
Or they could just, you know, not get gifts this week. It isn't as if they are an entitlement now that they are in the game

Damn - I've been making a lot of money selling to people too lazy to get their own collector items (approx 350K over the last few days - I can finally complete my guild hall). Now I've got a real incentive to try out FoW for the first time. Time to look up some guides.

BTW, I was quite happy to tell anyone who asked where and how to farm scales, and had quite a few people go off and do so rather than buy.

Did it with 3 accounts, every run at least 5 Seeds, H/H teams, they drop quite often.

Still, nothing good from Nicholas, just the same crap.

"Pre-nerf" is incorrect. It's pre-buff.

Good stuff. I was glad it wasn't another hellish grind like the mandragor cakes.

I got all junk from gifts though. Red Rock Candies were the best items.

Alright, I am looking for farming builds to gather up my seeds. Problem is, all the builds I find are from early to mid 06, which I have no faith in. The nerf bat has changed alot of things since then.

Anyway, anyone got a Ele, Ass or Monk build for soloing FOW (the only 3 chars I have that are capable of getting there)?

I use a Bday Cupcake to run to the beach. If you do not want that, take out Healing Breeze and use a running stance.

This build is quite fast and requires no special setup. Plus super safe. You will take ZERO damage from the Spiders, only degen can hurt you a bit Use Axe Mastery Headgear, superior runes to speed up the process.

This build is faster and does more damage. Requires a bit more gear and a minimum of skill though:

A/E standard Perma + whatever damage source you want. You can solo the beach easily that way.

Actually this is an easy farm, even for inexperienced players and first timers... can be farmed with a number of simple builds, available for a number of professions... this is easier and quicker than chromatic scales, builds capable of farming here have been around forever (pvx)...

Even a clueless, relatively inexperienced player can hero up and smash random critters in FoW normal mode.

Taking a ranger forest farming, or a warrior beach farming is pretty easy after all.

QQing Gloom seeds for the weekly collector is just a case of... I want my weekly free stuff, and I don't want to spend 15 minutes to get it.

Edit: Just saw your retraction, so... nvm.

I'm using my warrior running with Healing Sig, Dolyak, Defy Pain, Physical resistance, Sprint, and 3 sword attacks. Can take spiders etc. Works pretty well, just a bit of difference from my old old FoW spider solo.

Well, before all the "hurr consets ursan sf don't even have to look at the screen just roll the beach" people get here... since you're new to FoW (I've only been a few times myself), you'll need to take a few things into consideration. It's not an easy area; you'll need protection, preparation, and a good strategy. Visit the wiki, check out the foes, read up on discussion pages and threads here on guru. Since it's a popular area, you might be able to find or put together a group.

Though cookie cutter builds make the game boring, maybe look around pvx wiki and see if anyone there has a decent farming build.

You can do it, and with a little extra effort and maybe a skillbar swap or two, you'll be okay.

Can kill every thing on beach, make sure spiders are not all next to each other or there healing springs will make them impossible to kill.
This works great in nm - 5 runs 23 seeds and a few shards all together. Almost as easy as red irises. For the optionals i used dark escape to stay ahead of the warriors and crit agility for faster attack/energy gain from zealous daggers. And no cost because the extra seeds easily covered the entry fee.

I used the same build as zelgadissan - but that was my first time soloing FoW, so my 10 seeds took 10 visits ^_^

My Pc is joining UnChosen's and genofreek's :/

To Ceyarrecks: look at http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:R/Rt..._Forest_Farmer , not only the skills but the equipment and, most importantly, the walkthrough. The Fissure of Woe is tough and farming takes practice - lots of practice. At 1k a pop, it's expensive too - try to join a few pugs to get a feel of how the area works. To put it simply, the majority of the farm is not fighting stuff, it's avoiding stuff. It seemed to me that the Shadow Army lose aggro very quickly, which is just as well! Keep at it, you'll get there

Farming FoW doesn't take lots of practice. You can do the beach with a Warrior or Assassin. I learned the sin build in 1 run and the warrior I had experience already but it only took me 2 tries to learn it back when I first started to learn it.

Anyways those are the two fastest ways.

Ah well, you're a better man than me then, Gareth.

My first run, I aggroed the entire Shadow Army trying to work out where to go. 2nd run pretty similar. After that, I knew the route but I only once managed to run past the three ancients without dying - and even then I managed to somehow aggro the entire cave-full of spiders whilst fighting the driders outside

All the PvX FoW Warrior builds have Dolyak Signet. You don't need it, and it's just slow. See the last few pages of Racthoh's thread for some builds by kvndoom, blue rellik, and deluxe. They all have Defy Pain in common, I believe. With Knight's, Absorption, and a -2 stance shield, Defy Pain is enough to reduce damage to zero.

And the beach W/Mo axe whammo for doesn't work.

People, it's really not that difficult.
I ran this: http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:A/E_Perma_Sliver_Form
with Intensity. (Some may prefer Radiation Field)
Zone in, cast SF, use cupcake, avoid the shadow army / break aggro as soon as you can on your way to the beach. Aggro as may foes as possible on the beach and bunch the snarling driftwood in front of you. Sliver then while auto attacking with a zealous scythe for energy.
Rinse, repeat.
4 min runs, 2-3 seeds per run.

For those even less adept at PvE, grab a guildie 6 nec discord heroes. Create a minion horde and clear the forest in 10 minutes, each get 4 or so seeds and maybe a shard or two. Takes almost no actual thinking the heroes just do the work.

3 heroes and about an hour for 10 seeds.

15 mercantile summoners
10 mysterious tonics

10 rockets
I don't remember what else, so it must have been more crap.

^ agreed.

I never tried FoW solo before till nicholas needed gloom seeds. I've done UW solo with my sin several times though so FoW would be easy.

Used standard perma sliver and did 2 runs to get the seeds, got 2 shards as a bonus and all the random drops went to pay for entry with a 200 gp profit.

(run was just beach)

Nicholas however like the last few weeks gave me a pile of rubbish ;_;

Been wanting to dig out the old Ranger FoW build and equipment - turns out after a good year away it came back really fast ^^ (and yes I mean the old old R/Me proph build)

Shame I didn't get much from the gifts:

20 Jars of Honey
10 Bottle Rockets
10 Hunters Ale

Getting the seeds was no problem at all...basic perma-Dagger build and got all my seeds really quickly. But...since I deleted all my chars a while ago and started over...none of my characters had The Falls...had to run myself all the way there for this:

10 Summoning Stones
5 Blue Rock Candy
5 Cottontail Tonics
5 Firework Crates

Not sure if this will help anyone or not...

If you want to practice farming FoW, advertise for a partner who is doing the opposite farm run as you.

e.g.

Warrior does beach farm
Ranger does forest farm

That way both of you only pay 500g each to enter FoW and you dont interfere with one another's runs/drops

It's all about luck.
Me and a guildy went in with heroes - cleared the whole starting area and the quest, then moved onto the beach and cave. After that also cleared the Forge.
1 shard (for my guildy).
No seeds.
And I think I didn't make 1k from the drops.

For every guy that gets a million shards and seeds in one run - there are going to be a ton that get nothing.
I'll probably do a few more runs in the next few day - but knowing my luck - I'll probably end up buying the items again.

been using this forest farmer solo ranger build:

[Barrage][I Am Unstoppable!][Mental Block][Poison Tip Signet][Stormchaser][Vigorous Spirit][Troll Unguent][Conflagration]

All pyrebound - 9 healing, 3+1 expertise, 12 Marks, 9+3+1 Wilderness

Pop a cupcake to run to forest (spear +30, shield +30), Fiery Longbow of Fortitude for the fighting - takes about 2-3 min to get there, depending on skeletal spawns

6 seeds and 4 obsidian shards my best run so far - and that's just from clearing the worms/spiders/and first 6-7 sets of spiritwoods/spirit shepards

Ye, pretty easy farm this one.
Did a single forest run last night with the R/E BA build - 4 shards and 9 seeds.

I am planning to use my Warrior, Derv and Sin for some variety too.

Also, I managed to get a GWEN doll from the 50 gifts (3 weeks stockpile) I opened last week. I got basically all the other party, sweet and drunk stuff too that he gives, but no other minis and weapons.

Will post later what I get with my latest presents when I have all my seeds.

That was me yesterday. Two runs gave me three shards, 8 seeds, and an obby key I used to get a gold shadow bow. Shame it was Q12 and the mods were shit, but hey, +1 wisdom and treasure hunter. Plus a couple more gold drops that easily paid my way in and then some. It just took awhile because I'm not used to FoW at all.

I still wish I'd gotten better gift items, but I did get a red rock candy. And I'm gonna make a little cash off the keg.

First run ended with heroes deciding that they don't want to cast spells over the ledge in the forest - so they ran ahead, aggroed half the map and and the team's only rez died.
No seeds.

Second run - cleared then forest, the beach, did the forge and the griffs - one shard.
No seeds.

I do understand that if you lose repeatedly in Fort Aspenwood, it totally kills your Gloom Seed drops. Sorry to have to break it to you, Upier.

Actually, my luck was no better. Went with a full human team. One seed dropped and not for me. Then tried some of the solo builds, but I lagged during the run and got killed before I got there. Will try again tonight.
