Troubles with Texmod
FionaTheRanger
Hi guys
I have about 2,8% left for canthan cartographer and its too agonizing to go through each and every zone again so i thought i'd use texmode. The only thing is that (after i fixed the thing with the antivirus program saying its a trojan) when i try to load the mod and run the game i get a D'OH message. The game runs through texmod with no mod equiped but once i put one, whatever it is, this happens. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

This can often be because the mod you've chosen is a bad one. But tbh that error message is so vauge it could be anything.
Try another mod, or install texmod to a different folder.

texmod often triggers antivirus software, fixing it probably stopped it from working properly
Slasher of Darkness
well, I had the same problem, putting the mods and the texmod.exe to another place also din help, so today I took the easiest way, simply disabled antivirus, ran the mod and waited until my GW loaded up, then enabled antivirus quickly again and....VOILA! It worked!

Thanks for the replies. Well i tried to load the Cartography made easy mode from wiki and then another one i found.
Good to know that it can be fixed by turning off the antivirus but i think i'm gonna leave it as a last resort. I'll keep trying to find a way myself and will post if i have any success.
Edit: I think i forgot to mention something that might be important : after hitting the run button with the mods loaded and get that D'OH message I immediately get a message from my antivirus that a trojan has been detected - for example WTF1.tmp

Hey Fiona Gratz on getting close to your Cartography title.
The last 1%-2% is easily as hard as the first 98%. I got my first Tyrian Cartographer before there was a texmod and I can tell ya it was a massive pain because much of the last 1%-2% is probably not going to be visible as the "haze" is super thin.
I applaud your perseverence and willingness to continue without Texmod, but I warn ya it gets pretty frustrating......
So here are a couple ideas that may help you out......
1. Zoom out on your world map and take a screenshot using shift+print screen. Then navigate to the Guild Wars folder in your program files (default is XDrive:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Screens) find the screenshot and put it somewhere easily accessible like your desktop.
Then go to google select image search and type: Guild Wars Cartography 100% Cantha (or whichever area you are working on) to find some maps that are 100% complete.
Once you have both handy you will need an image editor that can handle layers, like Photoshop or Photoimpact, or if you do not have access to those softwares you can use The Gimp (which is totally free and REALLY good).
Place the 2 images into seperate layers and then change the property to "Difference". That will make the areas you have missed a little easier to see.
If you are not familiar with image editing software then post your map somewhere and send me a link to it and I will be happy to highlight the areas for you, it only takes a sec.

2. As some others said, the version of texmod and the .TPF files you have chosen make a HUGE difference, some are much better than others, so try a few different sources.
3. It is very possible that the copy you have has a virus or something corrupted. Try getting a copy from someone who has used it without issue and aviod the links from the wiki's. The ones I used have no names or identifying features but were really first rate. I would be happy to send them to you if you would like, just let me know how you would like to recieve them.
4. If you want to be hardcore and avoid texmod and imaging software then keep these things in mind:
-You need to literally hump the walls of an area to clear it. This requires more than just holding forward and right or left to diagonally run paralell to the wall. You have to actually push yourself against the wall and move slightly right and left....... like wiping the fuzz.
-Many of the areas you need to explore are places you would never normally go. There was an update that made it much easier to get this title a while back. Since then if you go to some of the more remote areas, like for instance getting Rurik killed and using Necrotic Transversal to get to his corpse and exploring the area underneath Borliss Pass(or frost gate I don't remember but you can find info on the wiki's) it is like "Bonus" exploration that will save you some wall hugging.
- Those stupid PE/PvP missions like Fort Aspenwood DO count towards the title. Back when I was working on this no one was ever playing there and it was really frustrating to sit there all day hoping for a group that never came. Since the Faction Increase and the Faction Cap increase these missions have become a little more popular so chances are you won't have to wait more than an hour or so to get in at any given time. Once you finally get in DO NOT tell people what you are doing as they will likely try to kill you....... lol
Good Luck to ya!!

Wow, thanks for the reply mate! Thanks for all the tips, although i know most of them already (the fort aspenwood and jade quarry thing was really annoying yet i've done it). To be honest i did try that thing with the image editing software but when i finally got it right i simply couldn't point out the areas i needed...so i got frustrated and deleted everything...it'd be a real help if you could highlight them for me!

What is your video card or graphics device? TexMod requires a DirectX 9 capable device. That is not the same as compatible. TexMod creates file(s) named "wtf(number).tmp when it runs a mod(s). You might try to exclude "texmod.exe" from your AV detection, but I am uncertain if that will fix your problem. I had an AV that detected TexMod as a trojan(AVG Free, although they may have corrected that), so I uninstalled it and now use another(Avira AntiVir).
Using image editing software and highlighting areas after comparison is nearly the same thing as TexMod with the Cartography mods, but TexMod does it faster and easier.

Well i just decided i'd try Slasher's suggestion and turn off my antivirus and then run the game through Texmod and it worked! Thanks for all the posts, i really appreciate all the help .
I guess that means it won't be necessary , but thanks for everything anyways!
