Extra Tabs are Visible
Lourens
Yes theyre visible but I can't use them lolz
Anyone else feels like he/she is limited because he/she refuses to pay?

No, I don't feel limited. I'm working towards an equipment bag, which, along with the free tab, will solve all my storage problems. Even the 2.5K bags saved me a whole tab across characters.

I have 1 more storage panel for free. I have 20 more slots than I had Wednesday so i feel more free not limited.

For this project you will need:
*Paper
*Scissors
*Scotch tape
*Measuring tape or ruler
*Pencil or pen
1. Take your ruler or measuring tape and place it on your screen and record the measurements of the visible storage tabs you don't have/want.
2. Use the measurements to draw a rectangle of the same size on your paper, and cut it out with your scissors.
3. Take your strip of paper and place it on the screen blocking the storage tabs. Affix your paper strip to your screen with scotch tape.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 if you move your storage window on screen or alter your resolution.
Enjoy!
Personally, I have no trouble ignoring those tabs because I don't need them. They're great advertising though.

How do you get the free storage pane anyway? Can't find any information about it!

Actually i agree that I would rather have them taken off. It seems a little pessimistic like saying that without paying the money we won't get the full experience - in regards to ANET saying, if we pay $10 for storage we get an extra tab...
Dragonire
I'm actually wondering if the design choice was like this because they didn't want to have empty space in place of the second row of tabs. Perhaps it's a little difficult to dynamically expand the storage window?
Zahr Dalsk
I'm annoyed because normally when swapping tabs I simply slide my mouse horizontally. Now whenever I go to material storage, it throws me off because I click a blanked-out tab.
pamelf
It's probably just easier from a UI design point of view, not any conscious decision from Anet to subliminally advertise to you.
Shadowspawn X
The disabled tabs are just a marketing ploy to get you feeling that your account is not complete. Its a cheap and cheesey thing to do on Anets part.

I personally DON'T want to see them when they're not available. Their ploy for temtping me outta my money isn't gonna work here.

Let's see.....I can buy a character slot, which comes with a 20-slot backpack and can easily get 2x 10-slot bags and a 5-slot pouch, for $9.99 or I can get one 20-slot tab for the same price? Great business sense, that anet. I suppose a fool and his money are soon parted though, right?

True dat. All the perks of added carrying storage, plus what you get in beating all 4 campaigns again far outweigh what the store has to offer and it's sad you can run around these boards to check how many people got suckered into buying this.

It's not the feeling of being limited, it's just annoying and plain wrong. Why not just give every account 20 grayed out character slots and advertise that they can only be used for 10$ each....

Seeing things you can't unlock IG is annoying...
If I ever decide to buy a new tab, I will be glad to see it in my xunlay chest... but not before.

and yeah, its ingame advertising... I had a guildie ask m last night why he couldn't access them and when I told him he could buy them in the ingame store, he went and bought them all and the freebie as he's a farmer for the guild

But this is exactly how other games do it and having them there and unaccessible make the UI easier to keep clean and sorted, rather than add them as you buy them

lol, it's really annoying that they are there when not able to use. but it is understandable that they left them there, always tempting u to buy em ;-)
Elephantaliste
even if free 2 play game you hardly see grayed functionnalities u can buy... (at least for those i saw).
And GW is a pay to play too, even if you pay once only for the access to servers.

At least when you accidently click on them they do not take you to the NCSOFT store... note to ANET Don't you dare!!!

I guess it is a nag to show players that there is more to buy. The UI would look better with non-active tabs not shown.
Rocky Raccoon
It amazes me how people on this forum find things to complain about. The visible but unusable slots have no effect on game play and are not seen by anyone but the you.
Skyy High
So they don't have to create 5 different UIs for the storage window, one for people with no extra tabs, one for people with one, etc.

20 inventory + 5 belt pouch + 10 bag + 10 bag + 5 equipment = 50 x 4 toons = 200 + 80 xunlai storage + 20 4th bday storage.
Or I can buy a storage pane for $10.
300 storage slots (and more material storage) for $15 versus 20 for $10.
You make the call.

Or... I can go to Amazon.com and buy Prophecies Game of the Year Edition or Factions for $15. I get 4 storage characters, all of which I can fully outfit with bags / equipment bags, the regular 4 pane Xunlai storage box, another whole material storage pane, plus an additional 4th birthday pane...

The panes aren't about mule type storage. It's about stuff you want stored there and accessed without having to change characters and/or launch a second copy of GW.
But sincerely, with the 5 (the old 4 + the free one) panes now available, I can pretty much get all the stuff I want there - Dyes, tomes, some mini pets, the shared between heroes shields and spears(spear mods are pricey and not that common)/weapons while I don't get all stuff I need, and I still have some space to store some of the unused PvE armors of the character I'm currently playing to maximize space for drops). There isn't much more I want to keep in there. All the rest can easily be stuffed in mules.
Edit: You don't get 4 panes of storage with 1 campaign. Mistake I've seen in loads of similar posts. Its 1 pane plus 1 pane per chapter. So an account with only 1 campaign has 2 tabs or 40 slots and not the 80, plus the free one. If you need raw space it still makes sense buying another account over panes. If what you want is quality space, panes become more attractive.
