Disclaimer The suggested armor pieces is would not be used in pvp fighting due to need for tactical identification of the primary class. Just like the pve skills a locked icon, would appear on the armor, and probably a basic primary armor piece will be displayed instead- while in battle.
The Armor fitter
The Armor fitter would make allow access for wearing another professions armor, improve a low armor (a event head piece-perhaps). For a reasonable cost.
ANET can of course charge for this appearance change, just like they did with Sardelact Sanitariums long suggested stylist. More money to ANET means longer survivability for Guild Wars.
Update
The armor fitter could also customize the heroes armor, or perhaps through items make npc armor available. For a price of course.

It takes a lot more to display an armor piece on another profession than it does to let a character change appearances.

Yes, im sure, but i still think it is doable. progress almost always requires effort.
I have noticed earlier that if one has another professions armor pieces in inventory, it looks like ones current characters class and gender. or that heroes sometimes get their armor pieces scrambled, shoes on the heads for example. Or instead of character one is a huge glowing square block. bugs of course.

/signed if you can alter an existing suit of armour to become another class type.
I'd suggest a one-time payment to unlock each class. 5 dollars per class, and once you pay it you can alter your armour's appearance at will to the corresponding armour set of an unlocked class. Does not affect armour rating. Does not work in PvP. I'd gladly unlock those, would be very neat.
Personally, I'd change my Ritualist's Norn armour to Ranger Norn if I could, since Ranger Norn is one of my favourite armour sets in the game.

armor is unique to profession type, lets keep it unique. think of a ranger wearing plate armor, not only is it unpratical, but ugly(imo) lol
also think of all the clipping issues, would waste time and our chance at sumthing better in august.

Hm... I see that way too much hard to add.
Each profession is build with different pieces.
Paragons and Elementalists have those floating gems.
Mesmers gloves cover just the hand, unlike other professions that cover the entire forearm.
If all moders were build the sam pieces, that could be possible, but it seems that is not possible in this game unlike you remake all models and all armors.
They say they are not adding new armors because it's too hard and resource-consuming.
Imagine to make something as many times harder as armors are there.
Of course it is doable, but what good will it be if they would have to put another fee per fitting of 50$ to pay the costs?
