So are you thinking in advance and salvaging everything?
Painbringer
Since the new addition of the wonderer who seems to be traveling towards Lions Arch (just an assumption) Have you been keeping and salvaging all drops just to stock up on items... Just in case?
El Presidente
I would if my storage wasn't pretty well stocked of materials now.
His earlier dialogue did say he'd move through the Shiverpeaks, down to Kryta and then perhaps the Crystal Desert (or similar wordage)...kind of advanced notice to collect from those areas.

my prediction, is it will be something rare everytime, but also something that is worth crap. Spiritwood planks, silk, fur.
Why wasn't this one fur anyway, wasn't he making a f'ing blanket. What is Nicholas part of PETA or something?

Who is the "wonderer"? You mean the traveler?
Rice
hmm i just hope he doesnt start collecting ectos for his gifts
zelgadissan
If he starts collecting ectos or shards, he better give me about five minis and/or everlasting items.
In answer to the OP: no. I have too many damn materials as is, here's hoping he starts wanting Steel Ingots for about three months straight.

I generally salvage most of my drops anyway (at the very least, all armor drops get salvaged, weapons and collector items do depending on what they'll salvage into) as it is, so yeah.
Vendetta Wish
I believe it will always be a dropped item just like other collectors, Char Carving, Spider Web, Drake Flesh, Etc. Force you to go out and collect rather than just run to a merchant and purchase. That seems too easy!!!

"So are you thinking in advance and salvaging everything?"
HELL. YES.
HELL. YES.

Nah im not bothering, lack of space, i have 250 of most materials, well the easily salvaged ones

zwei2stein
As far as we know, his next desired item can be anything.
From Dyes thought Tomes to Marks of Aidan.

i salvage alot anyhow, for conset mats, so its no biggie.
BenjZee
I salvage most items and have kept most colelctible items anyway

To be honest, Materials or things that can be acquires from an NPC through gold transaction should NEVER be chosen as the items that Nicholas the Traverler should be asking.
EVERYTHING that he is looking for SHOULD be acquired through farming Collector items as drops.
Creating a situation where those privileged enough find Nicholas first and then buying up all remaining stock of an NPCs items in order to resell them at insane prices and make a fortune should NEVER happen.
These items are meant to be a reward for all for finding him, NOT a reward for those with enough gold to purchase materials from someone else who is heavily overcharging.
By sticking with Collector drops, sure you will find people farming and selling those items to those willing to buy them, but it doesnt place a few choice players in total control of a situation. Collector drops are available to all no matter what the situation and can be successfully gathered in a group of friends or people you pickup.

He doesn't take salvaged drops and he is called Nicholas the Traveler, not the wonderer.
alluring athena
@Zodiak: Agreed
I would venture to guess that it will be very unlikely and/or uncommon he will look for mats in the future.
Most likely collector drops
Who knows next week phantom poo (aka residue) may be what everyone trying to get get their hands on for the Traveler (eww?)

seems like he is progressing through tyria atm, but can't quite make out a definite pattern with only 2 locations ;-). maybe the items will be going up in worth as well?

You fail to validate your argument.
GOLD SINK, Anet haz themz.
So you are telling me you can't kill any of the creatures.

Or expert salvage any of these items.

At least this way the Artisans will see some use. Why does everybody rush to the Material Trader?

Situation 1: When he gets to Lions Arch, he may hop abord a ship and then venture to Cantha or Elona.
Situation 2: When he gets to Lions Arch he may venture into the portal to Boreal Station.
But either way, if his speed and distance traveled remains a constant, we can extrapolate an area and besides, he woudnt reach Situation 1 or 2 in a few weeks.

For four years, I've salvaged almost everything, unless it turns into chitten, cloth or wood. The traveler won't change that. I expect he will often collect something other than a material... ie. Frosted Griffon Wings, Scarab Shells. But on occasion (like this week) he will want a rare material.

You on the other point fail to validate your reply about gold sinks. Gold sinks have been an output for people with too much gold looking for something more. Gold sinks are just that, places to sink your gold into, a money pit or blackhole where nothing comes out of. Lockpicks and treasure hunting perhaps. Though I must admit, I like my lockpicks.
MithranArkanere
I have 250 of all common materials. So for now I just keep salvaging only items with the 'Highly salvageable' property. That makes me remember that it would be nice to have a 'Highly salvageable' insignia. It would be nice to get some better luck with materials that usually appear mostly in Armors like with Weapons.
A11Eur0
You have a week every time to get 15 of whatever item he's taking. It's not going to be that hard to farm what you need.
If he needs ectos or shards he can FOAD.

A) Too lazy to go farming for them.
B) Don't have the time.
C) Have enough money they don't care.
D) Aren't smart or experienced enough to understand Rare materials and how to acquire them.

Nope, except for ectos, shards, gems, etc..nothing is really that rare that you should have to stock up ahead. I was saving collector drops for a bit, but you have a whole week to go to him. If it takes you a day or two to get all the drops necessary thats fine.
Targren
Nope. That would be playing right into the hands of the conspiracy... Hoard up on useless merchfood just in case Nick wants it. Oh look, I'm full! Better buy more storage panes!
Yeah, I'm onto you, Satan.

No, not in post, because he doesn't want very many of any particular item (so far). I am saving collectible drops in pre-searing though, because there it's up to 25 items/account/day, rather than just a few items/account/week in post.

You can farm materials, or buy them from players.
I fail to see the difference. There were people selling 15 red iris flowers for 2-5k last week; no matter what he's asking for, players will try to profit off of each other's laziness. Really, in terms of ease of farm-ability, it'd be better for him to ask for materials, because a) you can get them in many different locations, and b) most people are likely to have a few saved up in item storage.
FalconDance
I save the stuff anyhow, so why would a new collector change my ways now?
Oh, and he's not a "wonderer". He may wander but I'm pretty sure the only one doing any wondering is the person who's trying to figure out what Nicholas wants next week.

Cutting out information for your cause will not help you.
When it comes to materials you have a third option, the Material Trader. Getting rid of that option to force people to buy from you for insane prices is wrong.
Stop trying to convince everyone and go back to selling your Trader purchased Linen and Plant fibers.
Next month could be Cloth, hurry up and go empty the Materials trader...

All I started saying about all of this is that they should probably not make what Nicolas want, to be something that you can purchase from an NPC.
The hate machine soon followed. Everyone here must be selling Linen and was affraid of being cut off from an overcharging scheme.
Each time someone tries to post something positive in this forum it is immediatly followed by the worst kind of negativity, just watch.

I still don't see where you were that positive in your post. You basically openly attacked anet for picking linen as the quest item for easy to get gifts.
If you would have read the link i gave you on Gold Sinks, you would see that anet did it on purpose to prevent some of the inflation that will be caused by the Birthday festivities. It also has given them an extremely more effective type of gold sink, because now they have a lot more control on a weekly basis. However they monitor or keep up with how much gold in in the game, now each week they can absorb larger amounts back into the game than they could really do in the past. This doesnt mean that every week will be a purchasable item, but if they see fit to do so or if the economy needs straightened out (right now being one of these times), they can do so.
It wouldnt surprise me if the majority of weeks end up being like this one, but then again if enough people QQ about it, it might not happen again.
