cpu speed question

i got amd turion 64 x2..in a hp pavilion entertainment pc...when i play gw it laggs. and i see that cpu speed is at 33% at high graphics. when i put graphics on low it still laggs and cpu performance is on 30-33% why is cpu running so low and what is the cause..

please post any ideas at all..thank you very much

and also when i play it runs really smooth for a sec then it starts to lag and then its fast again..its weird..

More likely to be your graphics card then your cpu.. what video card do you have and what's the rest of your system specs???

No you cannot change a laptop GPU, but that one you have is integrated anyways. From what I have read in the past that is one of the better integrated chipsets for gaming, so it should handle GW all right if you don't have all the settings on max.

Also it could be a firewall that is causing the lag... try disabling it for a gmaing session and see if that helps.

If you are on Vista 2 GB is enough to make Windows run smoothly (more or less) but if you get into any gaming, graphics editing, etc... you will really benefit from having 3-4GB or more of RAM.

oh i know..i should use the new vista feature...where u can plug in a 4 gig flash drive and it uses that for ram as well..

oh yeah..when i press auto detect they put it close to max. idk how they detected it. but its not accurate

Actually, I believe it uses it to pre-load frequent used applications that normally would be loaded into ram. So all it should do Is make apps open a little quicker, and would free up a minimum of ram for gaming

I have tested Readyboost on my cousin's old laptop and we did not notice an improvement.

His specs were: A similar processor to yours, 1 gig of RAM and 128MB VRAM. He averaged about 20-25 in most outposts. We were suprised if it ever went over 30.

It is counter-productive for the thread but I think the best solution is to buy a new PC.

okay now i got a question about buying a new laptop...umm how often do you have to upgrade and how could you know what specs are good. because pc gaming can get costly...i used to have a fast desktop for gaming but now im in college im just trying to stay with laptops.. advice please?

To keep it simple, laptops are not a good option for gamers. They have very limited upgrade options and tend to get hot and die much faster under gaming load then a desktop will. With that said to get a decent gaming experience in GW you will want a laptop with at least a Mobility Radeon HD3650 graphics card, a dual core Processor running at 2.0 ghz or more, a 7200RPM hard drive, and 3-4 GB of RAM (presuming Vista: 2GB with XP). Now for newer games I'd suggest the same setup but with a 9600M or higher graphics card.... NO integrated graphics!!! - make sure it is dedicated or don't buy it. Also a 17" with 1440x900 resolution is waaaay more enjoyable when gaming with a laptop in my experience. Gaming on a laptop can be fun, but you will ahve to be willing to pay more then you would for similar performance in a desktop and you will have less life expectancy and hardly any upgradeabilty.

Also with Ready Boot under Vista the improvement will be negligible unless you are running 1GB of system memory or less and in no case will it ever make up for having more system memory installed..... it's more for making your computer not sputter under Vista in general applications and useage then for gaming anyways.
