Drop Problem
Jheryn
I usually am not concerned when it comes to what drops I get and others get in my party, however, every time I go on one of the Z-quests, missions, etc. I get totally screwed in the drop department.
I play with PUG's and they are getting 2 and 3 gold drops each (HM) and I am lucky if I get a blue drop. Most of my drops are white. I also don't get other gold equivalent drops like lockpicks, tomes, etc.
Again, not to just complain, but it is frustrating seeing everyone in my group getting multiple gold drops and I couldn't get one if my life depended on it.
Can someone tell my why this is or am I doing something wrong?

in a month u'll be getting the goldies.. =]

i got the same problem...almost ready to demand that ANET give me the "Jinx" title...been farming for an Ice Breaker..done atleast 90 runs..4 runs they got hammers. and right after i left the group in frustration they got them. 4 times this happened. as well as multiple VSF runs the same thing has happened. You think ANET has selected a small handle full of players to screw over or something?

You probably have the case of the bad Mojo.
Take a shower and try again. if it does not work, try again and rinse twice....
Jokes aside, its just your luck.

My guildies all say that GW is biased against me, to the extent that even my fabled 38% retain rate in HM is actually closer to 25% than 38 (my guildies swear it's 1% for me, and me only).
So you are just unlucky.. but hey welcome to the club.

It's called luck and probability. Drops have pretty low percentages. Over Easter I got 2 white dyes and a black in the span of 12 hours. I then proceeded to get nothing until the other night where I got over a half dozen gold weapons in an hour (this is all in NM). Sometimes stuff like that happens.

i did ring of fire hm zquest with friend we h/h. i got a elite war from the war boss just minutes after ones drops from a chest. XD then got another gold drop and he got squat. lol usually its the other way around for me. so its all in the luck sad to say.
byteme!
You've done nothing wrong except starting a thread asking if you're doing something wrong and expecting something different.
There's no secrets here. It's all random and you're suffering from a dry spell chalk full of bad luck. If I got a nickel for everytime someone posts a topic about how horrible their drops are and how we forum users are to somehow miraculously have a solution to said problem I'd be a filthy rich man.

This also kinda invalidates the myth about more people in a zone = poorer drops.
Lyphen
These people are all liars.
You're just doing it wrong.
You're just doing it wrong.

I know how ya feel. There's a running joke in my alliance about who's got the luck and who doesn't. Not to worry though, the luck will come your way.
alluring athena
It's funny to hear my fellow alliance members joke about how so and so just broke the drops in a certain area by starting to farm the same zone.

You should open a support ticket, they know about the bug.

Excellent work Mr. G (the a.net weekend keyboard is still funnier).
But, yeah, statistical variance. Take a statistics class in when you are in high school/college (if you are a math person) and you'll realize better.

I appreciate all you guys who let me know that it is just a random thing. I can deal with bad luck. We all deal with that. I was unsure if it was a leveling, play time, or game performance thing, or what it was. I have not been playing GW for long, and am still discovering much about the game.
There were a few who I would particularly like to thank, however.
@byteme! I wasn't "expecting" anything. I was unsure about how drops worked in GW. I have two 20th level characters, but haven't been playing that long, so thanks for absolutely nothing and for the snide remark.
@Lyphen, fog_of_redoubt, & Mr. G. You guys are great! I find it remarkable how small, rude, and malignant people can be when others are innocently asking for an explanation. It is always a comfort knowing that the inane, self-important, basement-dwelling, jerks will show up whenever you post something in a forum. It is a constant we all can count on in our daily lives. That being said, the graphic is very good Mr. G. I'm glad to know that you have socially constructive and important things to do with your time.
@HawkofStorms. I understand statistics all to well. I am a managerial finance director. I pull down mid six figures a year for my understanding of statistics and finance. It is disheartening to know, however, that my high school/college statistic classes failed me in "realizing better" how a computer game's reward system was programmed. Coming from you... ...well, it means nothing really.

Rofl np mate, Gw seems to breed paranoia. They nerf your fave skill, your drop rate is low, Farming code or the AI is a cheating sod are all common complaints.
We get a lot of these questions - It might seem like people don't care, but after you've had the question 50 times its easier to just write "luck" and be done with it.
EDIT: Almost forgot:
Welcome to the game
Always nice to see new blood, hopefuly not all over the arenas though. If you ever have any questions or need help feel free to PM me in game. Names under my avatar.

Welcome to the internetz. People get irritated when the same question is asked for the 50,000th time. The /sarcasm is intended to teach you via negative reinforcement to use the "search" function before you post in order to avoid getting publicly roasted.
In short, by posting you requested others' time and expertise in solving your problem, and you didn't offer to pay for it. Since it would have been nearly costless for you to use the "search" function to answer your question, your post was deemed a waste of the community's time. The community responded accordingly.
This is an anonymous forum. Take away social consequences for rough behavior and people aren't very nice.
Your discussion of your job makes you look petty and egocentric. You may be pro IRL, but you're a noob here. You didn't get that job by being unaware of your standing in your social pecking order. Also, keep in mind that the only reason you are nice to people at your job is because you'll be punished for behaving otherwise.

It's the simple truth. It's costly to be nice to other people.
I teach students. I also do research. Sometimes the students waste my time. Under such conditions I would prefer to chase them out of my office and do my research. However, I cannot do so until the student feels like they have had a fair hearing of their concern/question, because I then get roasted on evaluations.
Tons of other examples than the internet out there. For instance, consider rude behavior on the road. People are jerks because there's no way to punish them for being jerks.
Another good example: authoritarian leaders. They're nice to the people that keep them in power, and that's about it.
I reiterate: take away social consequences, and people stop being nice. There's no incentive to be nice unless your community punishes you for failing to be nice.

@Martin Alvito. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Your psychological assessment of the negative postings here were both enlightening and profound. I would never have gleaned any of what you told me without you stating the obvious about internet negativity.
As for payment, this is a free forum. No one asked you waste your certainly valuable time to reply to my post. I will bow to your authority as self-designated spokesperson for "the community". I will certainly compensate you for your illuminating and thought-provoking post. Your check is in the mail.
As far as being egocentric and petty, if you had bothered to read the condescending message I was replying to, you would know I was just establishing my knowledge of what the poster was accusing me of being ignorant. I am neither petty or egocentric. I am nice to the people at my business because I value them as people. I do not "have" to be nice to any of them. They work for me and my partners. I'm nice to them because they all have great value to me personally and professionally. I cannot be punished for not being nice to people unless they are punishing me by quitting my employ. I find that people like you who believe that others are forced into good behavior because of situational ethics are themselves stunted socially. Maybe you have anger issues, I don't know. I'll leave that to you, my internet psychologist.
There are two things you said with which I will readily agree. First, I AM a noob here. I freely admit it and it is people like you who make others, especially new posters feel unwelcome. Which brings me to the second agreement.

Yikes. Having a bad week or something? You need to relax a little, maybe take a warm bath with some Teddy Pendergrass and tend to your wounds.
