Old Returning Player
safo
Hey guys,
I used to play way back in the day before Factions was even out and loved the game, but eventually just got bored of it. I picked up playing again for a few months once Nightfall and Factions were both out and loved the game, but got burnt out because of how far back I was in terms of progression through the game. Then another expansion came out and I just felt overwhelmed. As someone who wants to play the game, but feels like they're waaaaaaay behind... is it possible to just reroll and start ALL over again at this point? I really like this game and want to play it but I'm afraid it'll be impossible to compete because of the progression everyone else has made. Any answer will help.
Thanks

I suppose you could just delete all your characters?
Really though if your felling lost I'd just create a new character and go through it again.

You can always start a new character, or get in an experienced guild, so they can help you out
safo
Well if I were to play with my characters right now, it almost feels like I'm starting anew because of how far behind I am. What are some guilds that I can join that can help me out?

Just go through the game by urself, use wiki if you need to, dont worry about other players, use heroes and henchies, the entire game can be completed with heroes and henchies. Take your time and have fun with it.

Highly recommend NOT doing this.

The game burns out far quicker playing solo

MithranArkanere
You have two years until GW2, you have plenty of time. Go buy a characger slot and start something new. There is new stuff in pre-Searing too.
safo
Yeah I don't know if I'd want to play solo. I'll give you a shout sometime, Lonesamurai, thanks for the help.

Dont feel overwhelmed, just cap shadow form, get glyph of swiftness and deadly paradox, and you're up to date..
But serious, just find yourself some friends/guildies to play with, every nice guild dont mind showing a newer player around.

i would say start a new character or work on your old characters, find a good helpful guild, could be hard, then play though and do what you enjoy.

??
The progress everyone else has made has overwhelmed you? Nobody has progressed in this game for like a year. We're at a dead end, you can easily catch up.

use your old characters, if the characters are still there (over 3 years) you might have some wealth you dont know about *cough birthday presents cough*. if you have 3rd or 4th year presents, you'l be back inthe game in no time.
edit: if your old characters are still in pre searing....man...your doing mighty fine in the economy.

Well, you can search the Wiki http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page about EOTN PvE skills, Kurzick/Luxon, Sunspear and Lightbringer title tracks. This will give you an idea what you missed out.
They are of course optional, but sometimes people will want that you have some of the skills and high ranks in the title tracks.
Guild Wars was supposed to allow you to play at even level, just by being level 20, during Prophecies and later Factions. Granted, you would not have some skills, but equal gear and so on.
But now you do not even have "Heroes", customizable henchmen and have to get them in the Nightfall campaign and EOTN. You probably have not heard of inscription and insignia either.
Nobody stops you from playing the game right now, but yeah, you are way behind.
ANet has forgotten about returning players and their initial idea some time after Factions was released.
You are not an absolute newbie to GW, so you might make it. Give it a try, it does not cost you money after all.
edit: sorry about the insignia part, I have no idea how long you played NF.

If you felt burned out by how far back you were around factions and nightfall, I can't say that you'll feel any better with the way things are now. I log in at least once a week, and I feel like I'm behind the curve. I don't want to be too discouraging, but with all of the grind and title linked skills they've added since factions, the time you'll have to put in to be on par with everyone else is a bit staggering. Really, this is the exact reason why I no longer recommend GW to friends. There's no sense in having them pick up a game where they'll feel like a second-class citizen. And with the hall of monuments, we now have grinding for a GW2, which isn't even close to being released.
That said, the game is certianly still playable, and you can slug your way through all of the new and old missions without much trouble, even with a character that is newly created. You just won't have many of the perks available that a player that has been around for a while.

There are always people in the same position as you are. Try to find some friends along who can help you, it'll make things much easier.
Slaphead Monk
The game its self has changed since you left, but players havent in the past 8-12 months, uve got a while to catch up, I myself have been on a break and am coming back, id suggest finding someone else who wants to do stuff like you and just hang with them till youre back on your feet. Slaphead Monk is my IGN ill be back on in about 20 days tops, once my new comp is back. Ill add u to my guild if you want, its only me in it, but im in a friends ally with quite a few people, all willing to help. I'd be more than happy to help you do whatever and give advice on whats changed, ive been looking for players who actually want to play and not just title farm tbh. I suggest keeping your old chars, you might have a few 1 2 or 3 year presents, for a bit of start up cash, and deleting them causes more trouble than it saves tbh.

You aren't behind, just at an early part of the game
There are about 20000 new accounts/month and every one of them has the whole game to go through and enjoy.
No, you won't have as much gold or know the game so well that it seems second nature to do so many things but then, no one starts any new venture knowing everything. The joy is in getting there.

Just remember. Guild Wars is best when played in moderation. Take time to do other things and experience other games. How do you think I have lasted since it was just Prophecies up til now without getting bored! (Pity most of my old comrades played GW til' their eyes bleeded. Needless to say, you won't see them around anymore!)
Shadowspawn X
No one is competing with you, why are you competing with them? If you can't just enjoy playing the game don't bother.
Zebideedee
To OP, I'd go for it, it seems overwhelming at first, NF will probably be the one you'll need help with the most, the other campaigns I pretty much h/h all of (though I'm not suggesting you do the same as me, best to get in a decent guild as early as possible, I wish I had).
Ps. I made a good few new toons recently just to have a bash at other professions when I get bored of my main, best advice is, if you enjoy it, do it
PPs: Max level is 20 for all, which is easy to achieve, maybe some peeps will have more elite skills than you, so what, just save up and go cap 'em (the skills lol not the player)

Start where GW started: Pre-searing Ascalon. There is a community in pre-searing. You can re-ignite your passion for the game. Listen to their stories. There's lot. There are serious guilds (there's an Army of Black Warrior, i think TYTN or Elite, who love to display themselves and they are cool to look at), and some "trying hard" to be good.
Don't rush it. Stay there for a while and enjoy the game.
BTW, there's so much to do in the pre-searing and you will be busy for some time. If you enjoy parties and drinks, then pre-searing is a good place to start. And it's cheaper (beer only costs 70g per bottle, and sometimes 50g only).

Right Apollo! I started when the the Prophecies servers went live. But, I've been off GW for real life and other games. And, I am known to play a bit of WoW off and on from time to time. Variety is the key.
OP, I would not worry about being competitive. Just play and have fun. Fun is all there is to be had in any online or offline game, really, since it's nothing but a bunch of pixels on a screen.

I don't know how making a toon will make you feel less behind. Take your one of your guys and just keep going. What ever you do, don't delete your others or you will be throwing away 4th year birthday presents.
