Hello everyone.

I helped a guild friend the other day with Gate of Madness and encountered a problem I had had once before and ignored until it happened again.

I basically do the mission like anyone, killing Lich then capping shrines then killing Shiro.

It is the second time I cap all the shrines (and get the bonuses from capping them) yet my team fails to get masters reward (I get the 4/5 shrines captured).

I have been thinking that "maybe" while we ran to cap another shrine if Shiro was a bit behind he can neutralize the shrine that has to then be capped again. But that doesn't sound very likely, they still show as capped on the mini map (U) and I still get the blessings.

Anyone else ever had this problem? I've got masters there doing exactly the same thing and wonder how comes sometimes it works and sometimes not.

Should I report a bug or this is a poorly known trick?

I didn't think about that while doing the mission but I guess if it is indeed a bug I should do it again and take some screenshots.

Odd - neither of the wikis notes any instance of this happening to anybody before. Once you cap a shrine, it counts for the Master's award regardless of if it is retaken by the enemy.

As an aside, it is apparently possible to capture all 5 shrines without having to deal with the terrible twosome first - just flag your heroes/henchmen to each shrine one by one before you enter agro range of Shiro and the Lich.

Yeah it's odd indeed. I will try again some time soon and take screenshots.

As for capping Shrines I don't find it difficult to kill the lich and then ignore Shiro, if ignored he's not very strong and easy to deal with.

Yeah Shiro can take the shrines, it really does suck. I was running through it in Hard Mode, I capped all 5 shrines and got Shiros health down to about 5%...then the party wiped. I was doing it with H/H, man I was so upset.

kill shiro first
then clear a shrine.
one of player can then lure carefully and patiently the lich with a bow to a shrine.
the lich will keep try to wand the lurer staying behind the shrine.
let the rest of team cap other shrines (they must not break agro or the lurer will have to do his job again)
kill the lich, gg job done.

While I like elephantaliste's idea, its probably not the best idea because of the lich breaking aggro. Also, the lich hits way harder than shiro does making it a lot more difficult to cap.

Not sure on what happened here, maybe you left an enemy in the back and just didnt notice when you killed the last of the two. Not very likely, but it could happen. Plus if you look on wiki it doesnt matter if shiro recaps as long as you cap the shrine 1 time.

But you can hold aggro behind the wall, making it a moot point, cos aslong as lich is attacking the person behind the wall, he doesnt hit anything

i always kill shiro first,because i can pull him without pulling the lich to,than proceed to cap the shrines without paying much attention to the lich,which is busy killing minions,although i have to agree the lich does hit way harder than shiro,but imo is more manageable than shiro when trying to cap the shrines.
