I've gotten this several times since the 4th anniversary update, which may be a coincidence. Anyone else? Why might this be happening repeatedly?
(In 4 years prior to this, I probably had it happen twice.)
Repairing Data Archive...

I haven't had it since the update, but otherwise it's a toss up for me. It seems like each time I reformat and have to install GW again I either get it all the time or never. I'm on a good cycle now I suppose...

I've been getting it a lot too. It only happens in either Vista or Xp, not linux. I tried removing the files and reinstalling the and gw -image but the next day it was doing the same thing. I have also defragmented the hard drive several times, and the dat. I have also checked the hard drives for errors and both Vista and XP drives show no problems.

Only times I had this was after they introduced the switch to character select rather then log off.. geez that was like 2 and a half years ago, but had a repair archive every time i wen to play after that then it stopped doing it. Could be anything...

Usually i`ll do something sneaky in this situation
1. rename the .dat file
2. run gw -image to create a new dat file
3. delete the dat file backup
Now this may seem weird not removing the backup but i do this way because incase the datfile dmg is from bad blocks etc ( can happen and windows cant see it - lost a sata drive before and xp said it was fine ) the new datfile wont use same storage area as old one.
There is a program which i think is called contig and it does defrag of either drives or just files and its better for defrag the dat.file - ive used after windows defrag and reduced what windows left.
GW only runs its own dat repair if it seems damaged - often it runs once an is ok but if theres worse dmg - eg beyond repair it will attempt on each startup to repair itself and go in a chain after that.

Hmmm... 'character select'....I've been using that a lot since the update. That might be relevant.
I haven't had any abnormal shutdowns or anything else, and I've checked the entire disk, so I don't know what else it might be.

you could try defragging the gw.dat file, as mentioned above:
auslogic disk defrag is a good litle program that you can download for free and it will let you defrag individual files.

Ran disk check.
Deleted .dat file.
De-fragged disk.
Ran GW -image to rebuild .dat file.
Still getting 'repaired'. Mystifying.
