Well 1 week ago I was playing Guild Wars and I sent a message in game: "Selling buddy key 50k". I disconnected and it says I'm suspended for 72 hours. It was my own fault ofc.. After waiting 72 hours I tried to log back in, now it says my account is BLOCKED!! I totaly freaked out and I've sent several tickets on the support website. After a few days of waiting the administrator responded and tells me the block is removed. I try to log in today and now it says my account is suspended for 302 hours!!!!

how is that possible??? I'm so confused and don't know what to do now..

Because selling those keys is against the EULA.

Live and learn, then get Luvs.

Meh, 302 hours is only two weeks. Its not like you are losing your account or anything.

Read EULA next time.

You can't sell keys for in-game money. And vice versa - you sell items for real cash.

You actually can, and I know people who do it with their friends for very cheap.
It's all done off-game chat log though :>

did I read you wrong, or did you get disconnected immediately upon sayings those words? Has Guild Wars become so efficient with the policing/patrolling?

secondly, selling and buddy don't go very well. that key is for your "buddy"

Or maybe Anet/NCsoft are smarter than we think and have undercover agents to try to get the RMT people and other people breaking the EULA...

*eerie conspiracy theory music*

Now, what happens if you buy a GW account and no longer want it?

Is it illegal to sell full accounts for real cash on Ebay?

Im asking because Ive ordered the GW complete collection for a second account to use 6 heroes, but when I no longer want the second account maybe a year from now, am I not allowed to sell it like I would do with any other single player game which I no longer want?

Or is it just that you cant sell accounts / keys for in game money?

Write it off as a loss. Unfortunately there's no transfer of license.

Look... the game belongs to Anet. You purchased a license to play the game. If someone else wants to play the game, THEY have to pay Anet. When you sell a GW account on E-Bay, you might think there is nothing wrong, but Anet is getting cheated out of the revenue to which they are entitled, and from which YOU are unjustly profiting.

Now, if you want to GIVE your account away, then there isn't a while lot Anet can do about it because you aren't gaining anything yourself by that action. Anet could, in that example, not honor the recipient's right to play GW on that acount, but that is a road they wouldn't likely wish to travel.

Think i actually saw you selling that too and i just thought what good that does since people can get a free trial from guildwars.com. Anyway, as people have pointed out you can't sell anything in game for real or in game money.

A good point has been brought up in this thread that has been something I've wondered about before. I have a RL friend I used to play with a lot; he moved on and I stayed. He put a fair amount of work into it and it would be pretty sweet to have it. Of course I'd want to change the email it's associated with to mine. Has Anet ever directly responded about the legalities of free gifts of an account from the purchaser to someone else?

No, you see, I dont get this point.

I buy a product. I no longer want the product. In the real world, it is perfectly legal for me to sell this product second hand if I no longer want it.

Online game accounts really arent any different.

Also, if I were to simply give away an account for free, which there is nothing wrong with, then Anet are still losing the same amount of revenue since the new player isnt paying them anyway right?

Selling game accounts that you no longer need is not any kind of cheat, but the game companies just want to punish people that do this with absolutely no real or logical sense to it at all.

Apparantly, sharing your account with anyone else is an illegal and bannable offense, so my friend who has one account that he also lets his GF play on is apparantly breaking the code of conduct.

Technically, you couldnt even let your own kids play on your account, you would be banned for doing so if Anet found out.
