my friend stopped playing guildwars and gave me his account, which has prophecies on it but none of the expansions. I googled a lot of my questions but just wanted to gt some more opinions.
Do I need to get all the other expansions to get these "new skills"? Someone said that if I dont buy them I'll be at an disadvantage because other people will have better skill than I do.
Should I play the singleplayer role play first? I'm pretty much only interested in PvP but are there any advantage to making a PVE character and lvling it up? I heard they get better looking weapons/armor and more skills.
I heard there's a PVP access kit that you can buy that unlocks all the things without having to buy any of the expansions, just not the single player. Is this true?
If PVP players can create any weapon and armor whenever they want why do people still use PVE characters to go against PVP players? WOudln't they be at an disadvantage? T
Thanks.

every expansion (factions, nf) has its own skills.. by playing a certain expansion you unlock more skills that will be equipable for your PvP heroes..
if u play the PvE first it would be better because there is a tutorial and you can unlock more skills, but if you start immediately with PvP you will be expected to know how to play without any tutorials and with limited skills
yes, there is a PvP access kit, buyable from the GWstore, although i dunno the price xD

so if I play PVP only but don't play through PVE, then I won't be able to use those skills?

If you pvp only you can use all the skills from the campaign you own AND any core skills. You cannot obtain, or use any of the other skills. However, if PVP only, you can buy factions, nightfall, and eotn skill unlock packs which allows you to use those skill whether you have those campaigns or not.
However, if u planned on pveing, not only will you be at a disadvantage without nightfall, factions and eotn, but youll only be experiencing about 25% of the game, whilst the nostalgic players would say its the best 25% of the (pve) game, its still only 25% of the whole.

For PVP you will need
The right skills
Although there are many skills in the game there are some key skills that are very useful to have, these are scattered through all the campaigns.
The ability to use those skills effectively
Having them is one thing knowing how to use them when and where to use them and when not to use them.
The ability to create a series of skills into a useful build that works in a team game.
The game is 4 years old there are players that have been here that long have all the skills and are very good.
Play some pve and get used to using skills, find a good guild that will help you grow in skill and confidence.
Most of all have fun.

No, you will still be able to get access to all skills (that you can have access to, e.g. all if you have all campaigns or pvp access kit), but you'll have to unlock them first (which is done automatic when you get them in PvE) by using balthazar factions which can take some time to get, especially if you don't have a good build.

If you're a prophecies character then second proffession changing comes primarily from the desert, when you're lvl 17-20, from a seriesa of quests
For Factions it's from Senji on mainland Cantha after finishing the second mainland mission (lvl 18-20)
For Nightfall it's in the Sunspear Sanctuary on Mainland Elona, (lvl 18-20)
In addition you can also change profession in the Great Temple of Balthazar, which is accessible once you've unlocked access to the Battle Isles

Oh and don't call yourself a noob. Why do people still continue to do this? Noob ≠ newb. Real noobs are not only bad at the game, they are obnoxious, don't like to learn, whiny, just bad characteristics. Newbs don't know since they are new.

Well it's good that you're looking and trying to find answers for the questions you have, that's exactly the sort of mentality you need for PvP.
For starters I would advise playing through all the campaigns, they will make you better - hopefully you'll be able to find a decent guild that will help you as well.
Then when you start PvP I'm afraid you'll need access to all the skills. I'd start off getting your feet wet in RA/AB playing with guildies and working as a team. Unlock some skills and try out professions until you know what you want to play. Once you've unlocked most of the skills for your chosen profession(s) it's time to move on. Look for a new but eager PvP guild, not a good one since it will probably be an unhappy experience but one that is around your skill level and looking to improve.
Play more and get better doing GvG and Ha, doesn't matter if you lose - learn from your mistakes. When you lose, ask for critiques from people you play with and against, watch replays if possible (GvG) to see what you did wrong and could improve on. Ask for advice from good players, go read guides, read battle reports and listen to vent recordings
You do all that and show dedication/social skills you'll be a top GvG'er
At least thats how i see it: tbh it's honestly not worth it, by the time you get good enough everyone would have left either out of boredom or GW2. If you enjoy playing around top 500 level that takes only a couple months and it's very achievable, it can also be quite fun if you have a guild that you enjoy playing with...
