Content Updates??

So now that the April Content update has come and gone, I am drawn back to the original statement about content updates:

http://www.guildwars.com/gameplay/de...ttractions.php

Content updates will be done separately from the monthly maintenance and occur every three to four months. By spacing out our content releases, we gain the time to tackle larger and more difficult projects that, previously, would've been impossible. Some features that once seemed unattainable are now being explored as upcoming projects. We are even expanding the Live Team to offer more of the best quality support and content that we can for Guild Wars. With this new system, we release our new content in fewer yet more substantial updates. We want players to feel connected to what we are developing even though it may be months away from release, so during development we will be more open about our process and what we are working on.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about the next update in July/August? Are we going to get actual NEW content, more rehash of existing content or more things to spend money on?

Don't expect any big-ass SF update. It' simple things like new Zaishen zoo and daily quests.

Yes, simple things. Simple things that required months of work. You do realize that those "small" things took a lot of work. Nicholas is YEARS in the making, and the daily quest thing has probably been around for a long while to.

While you may assume that the update was "small," it wasn't. It was one of the complicated updates I've seen. They changed the way character data was stored, and a bunch of other things, as well as creating a new zone and mechanics to operate the Zaishen Menagerie.

So it wasn't small. Just.. not good enough for you, apparently.

I would say it is a safe bet that the majority of new content each 3/4 months will be at least 4 months and will be via Micro-transaction (I would think it unlikely to see more than 3 contents updates a year and more than likely it will be 2 and they will change this quote as unfeasible)

If there is a big skill update it will not occur more than once a year (if ever) other than that it will continue to be the monthly balances ( I'll use the word balance instead of dartboard based mockery)

Although to be fair A-net surpised us with the makeover/stylist (apart from the faction characters whom lost out big style imo) and the menagerie and storage and ZQ Dailies (which I rate as a fantastic addition) maybe they will shock us with a HUGE skill balance that shifts PvP Meta's and awakens PvE from it's stupor to realise that non-stop farming gets dull and there is other stuff out there

What are you talking about?

When I said simple I meant simple for player's. A place to put store your pets is something simple for player's. Also I was just referring to the Zaishen zoo and the daily quests. I didn't say anything about the rest or the update being small.

And how do you get the idea that the update wasn't good enough for me?

The entire post was aimed at the OP who said Has anyone seen or heard anything about the next update in July/August?. The only thing I did was warn him to not expect something like the last update, thus acknowledging that the last update WAS big.

lol, they say that they will be doing larger content updates every 3-4 monthes, but gw2 beta is suppose to be out by now and it won't be coming out for who knows how long. besides, we are not even a month into the most recent content update. give it time and don't be so impatient, it will only make the wait seem longer ;-)

Based on this, shouldn't someone start telling us what they are working on for July/August soon?

Now that we got storage update and zoo for our animals, even makeovers and daily quests (something that was asked for before) I hope they do something like an ascalon elite dungeon Catacombs like suggested in another thread. Something like a new elite area to play through, perhaps dwayna's realm or lyssa's XD

New hero's to fill in the missing professions would be nice too.

Nothing is impossible in my eyes anymore (cept for ingame marketplace/auction) and I am very happy with Anets work.

TY anet...give us a hint XD

First of all, lol at what you bolded. They'll tell us about two things about 2-3 weeks ahead of time, leave the rest as a "suprise", and will NOT tell you about things like April's cash shop updates. Why would they want you to know about that? So we can start trolling forums and wikis early? Really, there's never anything on "Upcoming Projects" on the wiki other than GW2. "We want you to feel connected", yeah ok, thanks for letting us know we'd need to save up to buy half the update on the day it comes out.

Second, step down from the podium Archaic. No one was getting even close to insulting Anet's efforts. He said "Don't expect things like Sorrow's Furnace." Compared to SF, the menagerie and daily quests ARE simple, gameplay wise. No one was talking about the development process or even really cares. Also, maybe Nicholas was years in development because they were kindof busy developing 4 campaigns and everything else that we have that GW needed. If you understand the development process going on at Anet so well than you should certainly understand this.

I think I saw it here on guru, in another thread.

Anet has "PvPlovin" or something planned.
I can only assume that they are going to upgrade PvP somehow?

I call it World Of Warcraft. But oh well, this would be so awesome!

Srsly: I expect Pvp love, that means new arenas, maybe a LARGE skill balance (i would like to have one BIG skill update instead of one content update than loads of mediocre ones). Maybe my dream - PvP polymock?

My guess it will be nothing much to be concerned with or look forward to. And you can expect it to take all of their development time so they won't have any substantial skill balance that month if they do it.

You may want to check out the dates on the above thread. This is when ANET announced the April Updates (my original link) Katsumi Posted it to this forum back on 15 Jan 2009 if you do not want to click on the link. So I think that asking about the next announcement is not too early based on the previous announcement.

Then they wasted those years. Seriously, any adult who likes to be properly entertained wouldn't waste their time just farming stuff for rewards like Nicholas gives out.

Did we ask for the zoo?

Hands up everyone who would trade the zoo for real, NEW playable content!

PvP loving? PvP has a constant stream of playability whereas PvE has been reduced to solo farming every week/day. Or are they gonna give PvP more of our vanity items? Let's let PvPers get full Primeval, glowing hands, tormented items, destroyer weapons! All of it, without playing the game, all they have to do is read the skill updates every month and spam their gold animals in every outpost.

Get real, that is such RUBBISH! Years to add a collector and a new gift item? At that rate it would have taken about six centuries to produce prophesies.

It was a very nice update, and generally very well received, though I personally can't see the point in the menagerie given how useless pets are in GW, I was hoping for something in this months failed skill balance. But don't make this out to be anything other than what it was, a modest content update and intended in no small degree to support a new micro-payment model.

As to OP, I hadn't noticed that before on the 3-4 month cycle. Given that GW2 is probably still 1-2 years away I shall look forward to these, however small they may be. However, I would expect that every content update will have a micro purchase option to accompany it.

He got it wrong. Nicolas didn't take years. Probably just a week or so. John Hargrove said that the model had been there since the release of Prophecies. It just wasn't used till now.

Keep in mind that there were only three people and a few programmers working on this, since everyone else is full on developing Guild Wars 2. I'd bet that the tri-monthly content updates will all be roughly the scale of the 4th anniversary one. By that, I mean in amount of work. How that translates to content is anyone's guess. Still, It's better than nothing.

I like how this person refers to everything as "our"s and "their"s. GW: PvP vs PvE - Come Get Some! Although, that wouldn't be very much of a fair fight. Would certainly be amusing as hell though.

Agreed, lol, but that probably depends on the battleground and rules of engagement as well though.

If PvE can use those PvE-only skills in this 'fight'... mmm, may not be such a one-sided affair then

Noticed the same. And people wonder why there's a rift between PvP and PvE :rollseyes

Anyway, I'd like some update on the larger scope of the new update. Will it be PvP, PvE, expansion of already existing content, buyable content?
