First off, this is not a WTS thread, I just need an opinion on this matter.
I bought a HP 6730b laptop in October last year. It has a 12 month warranty, up to October 2009. I paid around 900€ for it back then. The new one costs like 850€ now. The laptop is in perfect shape (this business series is like, made of stone).. And it's working like the day I bought it. I rarely used the battery, so it's still very durable. Now I'd like to sell it and buy something with a more powerful graphics card (this one has an integrated one). So I'm wondering how much could I get for it now? If anyone knows the pricing and how much a used laptop is worth in comparison to a new one, please help me out.
~Thanks

70-80% of what it was worth IMO would be a fair. I have been watching a lot of auction houses on laptops and they seem to hold a decent value if they have the operating system intact. Make sure to get it to the factory state and it will help sell. Since it is used and almost a year old I would think a loss of value in the 30-20% is not bad. I would get other estimates though. I put percents since my life revolves around the U.S. Dollar.
P.S. If you have components and they are not needed like mouse/carry bag/ docking station / software add them to the pot but only increase your sell price a little. People like extras but they will not pay much for them

I'd have to disagree with Painbringer. Based on personal experience, something that is a year old in the computer business is more like 50-60% of the original value.... computer technology changes month to month sometimes and once it's taken out of the box the value drops drastically, let alone the fact that it's been in use for 12 months. Restoring it to factory condition would be a must, since most people out there won't want to mess with it or even know how, so that is a good selling point. Feel free to try for 75% but I would not expect it so sell right away unless you ahve the inside track with someone.

I'll restore it to factory settings, yes. And I have a friend who wants to buy. Well a friend's relative.. So I'm just trying to find a fair price.. I don't want to overprice it since it's a friend afterall, but I do need money. I'll try to get more opinions. Thanks for the replies

50 - 60% if it is in really good shape....and if you are really nice, you will wipe the OS and give them a clean (and updated) install.
